The 1990 air disaster at Baiyun Airport in Guangzhou, China, was a major disaster that killed 128 people, as well as a tragedy full of human factors. At the time of the incident, a passenger, Jiang Xiaofeng, rushed to the cockpit and threatened to detonate the explosives on his body. The crew couldn't tell if he was telling the truth, so they did as he asked, causing the plane to lose control and eventually collide with two other planes, causing a raging fire.

After the accident, all relevant departments quickly launched actions, including airports, public security, armed police, fire and medical rescue teams, etc., to jointly rescue the injured at the scene. It was a miracle that the rescue was completed in 40 minutes and 102 people survived. Most survivors are mechanical injuries, and craniocerebral trauma, asphyxiation, and burning are the leading causes of death.

The aftermath of the accident was handled by a team set up by the relevant leaders of the provincial and municipal governments and the Civil Aviation Administration, leaving only a small number of intact wreckage after the disaster. Among passengers killed in accidents, head trauma, suffocation and burns were the leading causes of death.

Sadly, however, the hijacker Jiang Xiaofeng was killed in the accident, and he had a criminal record before the incident, and he was not a person who might have been granted political asylum. His death could not make up for those more than a hundred living lives. And this tragedy has also triggered relevant departments to think about and change anti-hijacking policies. How to stabilize the emotions of hijackers and protect passengers and aircraft safety has become a more important principle.

During the interview, I met Fang Dinghuang, the father of the victim Fang Xiaoping. He showed me the stories he had collected over the years, immersed in the grief of losing his daughter. For him, his daughter was sensible and obedient, and if she had returned safely at that time, they might have had a happy family.

The story of this air crash leaves us with a lot of warnings and reflections. At the same time, we can also see that China's counter-terrorism work has always been very important and comprehensive. Regardless of the country, counter-terrorism is an urgent task.

Looking back at the crash, we can better understand the story behind it, so that we can further refine and improve the relevant safety measures to ensure the safety of passengers and crew. It also reminds us that in the face of emergencies, we should make the safety of our passengers and aircraft our primary goal and avoid risk-taking. In this way, the occurrence of similar tragedies can be minimized and people's lives and property can be protected.
