We often hear that Lao Chiang was the "captain of the transport brigade", because what he was best at during the Red Army and the Liberation War was to provide weapons and ammunition to our army. Especially in the later stages of the Liberation War, many units of the PLA were quasi-American armament units, and their weapons were captured from the Chiang Army.
Chiang Lao was nicknamed "the PLA's logistics minister," a role he worked for nearly 20 years. He was not only competent but also obedient, and once, Peng Dehuai made a phone call, and Lao Jiang obediently sent a plane to the ocean.
In January 1934, Peng Dehuai led his army into Fujian to fight, and the Red Army hoped to unite with the 19th Route Army, but due to the mishandling of Bogu and others, the Red Army could not enter Fujian in time. It was not until January 1934, when the 19th Route Army was defeated and the eastern gateway of the Soviet region was wide open, that Peng Dehuai received an order to lead the Red Third Army and the Red Seventh Army into Fujian. The first task of Peng Dehuai's troops was to destroy the Lu Xingbang Brigade of the former 19th Route Army that had defected to Jiang's army and occupy Sha County.
Peng Dehuai's troops suddenly changed before they set out. Teng Daiyuan, political commissar of the Third Red Army Regiment, was transferred to the General Hospital of the Red Army, and the Third Red Army Corps was replaced by Political Commissar Yang. Political Commissar Yang and Peng Dehuai saw each other as before, and their cooperation tacit understanding made this imminent change of battle not a problem. The Red Army, under the leadership of Peng Dehuai, decided to use demolition tactics to attack the city. The Red Army did not have enough explosives, so Peng Dehuai taught the soldiers how to prepare explosives out of soil and personally instructed the soldiers to dig tunnels. The engineering company organized commando teams of party members to carry out tunnel operations in turn. The Red Army not only dug tunnels, but also shouted to the enemy to break up the enemy's fighting spirit.
After several days of fighting, the Red Army finally captured Sha County. The Red Army detonated explosives, blew up the towers, and completely annihilated the enemy. Peng Dehuai found that the enemy's breakfast was still hot on the city tower, so he unceremoniously invited everyone to eat breakfast together. The enemy did not know that Shaxian had been occupied by the Red Army, so he continued to send telegrams to the enemy for help. The Red Army received the enemy's telegrams and accepted the enemy's airdrop materials, which made Chiang a "transport brigade leader" again.
Lao Chiang's experience as "logistics minister" made people see that although he was anti-communist and counter-revolutionary, his contribution to the Red Army could not be ignored. As Peng Dehuai showed in this operation, he and the young political commissar Yang learned from each other, respected each other, and worked together to complete the battle.
