Cross-border influence: Phoenix TV's "Hong Kong Nature Story" project dialogue with the International Fashion Summit

author:Phoenix TV

On October 11, Fashion Summit (Hong Kong) 2023 opened at the Xiqu Centre with the theme of "Sustainable Travel" for two days. Global industry leaders, experts and scholars gathered at this international summit to discuss the current situation and challenges of sustainable development, focusing on the innovation and transformation of "sustainable fashion".

Since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by the United Nations in 2015, the concept of "Sustainable Fashion" has emerged in the textile and garment industry in recent years, and how to run the concept of green environmental protection and carbon reduction through the production and manufacturing process of textile and apparel is a common thinking issue for global fashion practitioners. Hong Kong is playing an increasingly important role in this regard. WWF-HK, as one of the co-organizers of Fashion Summit (Hong Kong), invited Phoenix TV to participate in a cross-border dialogue public sharing session on the afternoon of the 11th.

In September 2021, during the first Mission Zero Carbon International Climate Summit, Phoenix TV and WWF Beijing Representative Office (WWF) signed a three-year memorandum of understanding to promote environmental philanthropy, including two consecutive Zero Carbon Mission International Climate Summits, two Earth Hour activities and the Nature Good Forum. The two sides will co-host the 3rd Mission Zero Carbon International Climate Summit on November 1-2 this year to continue to support global environmental protection.

From 2022 to 2023, Phoenix TV and WWF Hong Kong jointly launched the "Hong Kong Nature Stories" project. In line with the common concept of "continuing to pay attention to the field of public welfare and supporting the cause of sustainable development with practical actions", WWF-HK and Phoenix TV shared the theme of "Hong Kong Nature Stories" at the cross-border dialogue and sharing session. Phoenix Satellite TV Group's annual key project "Hong Kong Nature Story" specially prepared a special clip of the wetland chapter, which was exclusively screened in the venue. The 12-episode documentary series will be launched on the all-media platform of Phoenix Satellite TV Group from October 28 to meet the public.

The cross-border dialogue and sharing session on the afternoon of the 11th was hosted by WWF-HK Head of Corporate Sustainability, Ho Meijuan, and the guests were Ye Yang, Chief Planner of the "Hong Kong Nature Story" project and Deputy Director of Phoenix Satellite TV's Chinese Channel, and Dr. Wen Xianji, Director of WWF Mai Po Conservation Area and Migration Route Conservation Project.

Starting from their respective fields, the three discussed the possibilities between conserving nature and creating a "fashion city", and collided with ideas.

Ms. He Meijuan first asked: In the past, international nature documentaries were mostly based on Africa and the Americas, and it was rare for Phoenix TV to choose Hong Kong, why did it choose to tailor such a large-scale nature documentary for Hong Kong?

Ye Yang, chief planner of "Hong Kong Nature Stories", responded, saying that there is currently no large-scale nature documentary series in the industry that mainly shoots Hong Kong's natural ecological stories, and Hong Kong's efforts in natural environment conservation are worthy of global vision. For example, few people know that although Hong Kong is a bustling city, it has a population of marine life comparable to that of the Baltic Sea. In addition, Hong Kong culture combines East and West, and the concept of environmental protection includes the Chinese culture of "heaven and earth people" to live in harmony, and there is a unique secret behind this soft power. Therefore, "Hong Kong Nature Story" not only captures the landscape of Hong Kong, but also explores the mystery behind Hong Kong's nature story.

When asked how the public can join the conservation effort, Dr Man describes the ecological beauty of Hong Kong's Mai Po wetlands, which he has been working on for decades, and he calls on people to reduce pollution by making lifestyle changes and starting small.

Finally, on behalf of WWF-HK, Ho Meijuan thanked Phoenix Satellite TV Group for its support in nature conservation, saying that people like Dr. Wen who are engaged in conservation are very hard but rarely known, so the cooperation with Phoenix TV is a very good opportunity, and thank the public for using such a platform to let the public see the story behind it.

Ye Yang also thanked WWF-HK for sending a number of experts to "Hong Kong Nature Stories" for their in-depth participation, professional guidance, and ensuring the authority of the project content, which will help this project take root in Hong Kong. In the future, the project will also cultivate the next generation of conservation concepts through activities such as "Walking to School".

"Hong Kong Nature Stories", which will be launched on October 28, will be launched as a key original cultural public welfare IP project of Phoenix Satellite TV Group in 2023, showcasing Hong Kong's natural beauty and sustainable development experience to the world from six major scenes: rocks, mountains and forests, oceans, waterfronts, fields and wetlands, driving people to participate in sustainable development and carbon reduction and emission reduction actions, and generating positive and long-term international influence.
