Ma Rongyan's marriage and burial seem to be true and wrong (Total 219)

These things are the most important in the Zizhi Tongjian

Zizhi Tongjian. Han Ji 43: Ding Ugly, the emperor cited the People of Dunpu as the Secretary of State, made them countermeasures, and asked questions about the present world' enemies, which are appropriate for the government.... Fufeng Gong Cao Ma Rong said: "Therefore, if the marriage is frugal, the marriage is timely; the funeral contract is hidden." Ma Rongce's general idea is: "The dowry is frugal, and those who need to be married can marry in time; the funeral etiquette is simple, and the deceased can be buried in time." ”

Ma Rong's court policy on marriage and burial is correct, and it seems that it is true that the crux of the people's lack of livelihood is pushed to the small people in the countryside

The practice of Ma Rong's doctrine is not enough to save social ills; on the contrary, if we advocate his doctrine, it is enough to deceive people and destroy the system of benevolence and etiquette and corrupt social customs.

Some statements seem right but are actually wrong. As a Confucian scholar, Ma Rong's court strategy for marriage and burial was like this. If the Ma Rong doctrine is implemented, it is not enough to save social ills; on the contrary, if it advocates his doctrine, it is enough to demagogue people's minds, destroy the system of benevolence, etiquette and righteousness, and thus corrupt social customs. It seems correct because Ma Rong said such things because he was worried about the lack of food and clothing for the people. To say that he is paradoxical can certainly come up with sufficient reasoning.

At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the great empresses took turns controlling the government and not acting; eunuchs and the wet nurses of the young emperors could manipulate the regime. There are such people who are extremely poor and extravagant and hollow out the country; there are corrupt officials and corrupt officials who run rampant in counties and counties, sucking the people's fat and people's anointing, and the people are already extremely poor. Under such circumstances, will there still be people who are extravagant and wasteful because of the etiquette paid attention to at marriage and funeral? Ma Rong, a "simple man as the secretary of state," avoided the above-mentioned corrupt phenomena, but instead blamed the small people in the countryside for the sins of those who had caused the people to live in disgrace, and stared at the little filial piety and love that was pitiful and lacked clothes and food. I would like to ask: How can a simple man be so worried about the people's lack of food and clothing?

Therefore, Wang Fuzhi, a historian commentator, rebuked him unceremoniously: "Heresy slanders the people, fills the people with benevolence and righteousness, and other days attach praises to the door of power, and embraces the tent and indulges in desires. The gist of this is that Ma Rong's remarks on civil marriage and burial are based on heresy, which is full of benevolence and righteousness, and it can be seen only by looking at his subsequent attachment to the power gate and the full mouth of praise for the foreign general Liang Ji. He sat in the lecture hall where the tent was laid down, but he did what was timely and happy. This virtue of his is the result of his concept of "saving the cost of marriage and funeral, so that you can have pleasure in time."

Marriage and funeral are two major events related to the whole life, and the "Record" says: "The first king attached importance to the use of folk goods, and focused on the use of ceremonies. The first king did this in order to reward benevolence and promote the education of courtesy, righteousness, and shame, and where is the profound connotation of which a despicable person like Ma Rong can understand?

In the past, when the Yin Merchants were about to perish, marriage etiquette was in ruins, impetuous quirks were prevalent, and men could lure girls by tying thatch on the dead deer thatched, which worried King Wen; the poem "Guan Ju" said: "QinSer Youzhi, Zhong GuLezhi." It means that "playing the piano and drum makes her feel love, and ringing the bell and beating the drum makes her happy." "We are to treat the women we admire with the grand liturgy that we can afford; the solemn and graceful wedding car is just full of blooming peach and plum flowers.

People revere the boudoir as a holy place, preventing wild unions from the source, and therefore, beautiful women are like mature plums filled with baskets, but there is no need to worry about missing the time of marriage. Therefore, not being able to marry in time does not harm the marriage, if it forms the reality of "slaughtering sheep without blood, carrying a basket without fruit", then it is called nothing to help!

As for funerals and sacrifices, would the monarch bear to forbid the small people to do so by "worrying about the lack of food and clothing for the people"? How could the little people bear to seek the so-called "abundance of food and clothing" by betraying their dead relatives and being stingy with the expenses of sacrifices?

Ma Rong believes that the "thick burial" of the family is poor, which is not in line with etiquette. He told the virtuous to lower their posture so that they would not feel sorrow for the imperfection of the funeral utensils and hurt the living. Again, this is typical paradox.

The general official's fortunes were meager, however, according to the Funeral Rites, clothes, belts, quilts, wine vessels, reed mats, and grand scenes of three sacrifices were not diminished by the poverty of the family. It was only after Qin Shi Huang seized Jiangshan that he began to exhaust the world's financial and material resources and recruit the world's laborers to build a mausoleum for himself in Lishan. Emperor Wen of the Han Dynasty, who cut down luxury funerals and advocated simplicity, was to alleviate the plight of the living people formed after the First Emperor and caused by extremely thick burials. However, the frugality of the Son of Heaven will not bury himself in the yellow soil and hurt the hearts of the children of the world.

Ma Rong's countermeasures, there are words that dare not be made clear to the Son of Heaven, and he takes the common people's words. Ordinary scholars and commoners should not have been forbidden to show filial piety in the first place. Mozi had no father in his eyes, at least a paulownia coffin to bury his father on the spot. He buried his father thinly in order to show his love, to set off his own correct point of view, and to be indifferent to his parents who gave birth to him, and to guide the world to be mercenary, mencius once denounced him as a beast.

Parents' endless kindness, the end of life is such a day, this time do not express their emotions, then, where to use "emotion"? Ma Rong is not born and raised by his parents, but he must limit the children's compassion for their fathers, and he must save his surplus money for the sons of man to raise his wife and children. If his doctrine were to prevail, then the beasts would eat man, and man would devour each other, and how the relationship between men would develop would be unimaginable! So despicable, then, can Ma Rong be spared such a killing as the head of the owl?

In order to get married in time and give up etiquette, then the son-in-law will be shameless when he enters the family of the daughter; and before the marriage age, he can not be paired according to the rules and open the door to sexual immorality; if you want to avoid spending money on the body of your father and pursue the simplicity of the Ma Rong clan, then it is possible that your relatives are still in the lobby during the day and abandoned in the wilderness at night; if you throw the body into the wilderness, the wildfire or the fox will burn and bite the corpse of your relatives who are still warm.

Human society has gone to extremes, competition and demand have become the mainstream, and even betrayed hue for wealth; or have been confused by the charlatans, in order to save money or even divide the corpse, burn the dead bones, and then often occur. With such a desire for profit, is there a more extreme ending than this?

Ma Rong may not be a person with a vicious heart, but he is certainly a person who does not understand the connotation of the etiquette of the previous king's deliberation and external situation. The king despised property in order to fulfill human nature and realize the indoctrination of the whole people, which was not mentioned in his remarks.

Wang Fuzhi rebuked him, saying, "Rongye, the culprit of the Guming Sect, is no longer enough to count the human beings. "The gist of it is: Ma Rong, a man, must be an enemy of fame and enlightenment, and he is not qualified to stand on a human footing, so what is the point of the Son of Heaven condemning him to kill him?"
