Cultural genes

The organizer of this exhibition is also the marketing and service provider of the well-known Shanghai brand art exhibitions "ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair" and "JINGART Art Exhibition Beijing". The organizers said that every time the team chooses to hold the expo in a new city, it will combine local cultural characteristics and consider local cultural genes, such as the Shanghai exhibition focuses on fashion, the Beijing exhibition focuses on classics, and the design capital Shenzhen, the exhibition is biased towards design.

The reporter saw at the scene that modern and contemporary galleries and design galleries were interspersed. According to reports, the proportion of design works in this exhibition has reached a new high, echoing the "cultural gene" of Shenzhen Design Capital.

For example, Objective Gallery, which came from Shanghai and participated again, unveiled a series of simple and unique ceramic works, showcasing the innovation of young creators at home and abroad that break boundaries and integrate contemporary concepts and material craftsmanship.

The exhibition focuses on the fusion of design creativity, such as the group exhibition "Emotional Clothes" to create a "old for new" circular theater, where 13 groups of creators present sustainable concepts using fashion and fabrics full of emotions and memories.

The booth of the local art institution in Shenzhen also echoed the theme of design and art. Among them, the booth of the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning exhibits the collection of Anish Kapoor's "Untitled" and "Heavenly Stone"; Design Access presents the work of Italian master Gaetano Pechet.

Wonderful works from heavyweight galleries

This exhibition has no shortage of wonderful works by heavyweight galleries. Baishi Gallery, Tang Contemporary Art Center, Hive Art Center, etc. have returned to Shenzhen strongly.

Shiraishi Gallery brings blockbuster contemporary artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Yoshitomo Nara, and Takeshi Maekawa. Through painting, photography, sculpture and installation, ShanghART Gallery presents the creative trajectories of influential contemporary Chinese artists. The recess focuses on concise paintings and sculptures, and the artist's solo exhibition is being exhibited at Design Society in Shenzhen at the same time.

The Thousand Plateaus Art Space exhibits experimental photography, classical oil painting, experimental painting and ink works on paper, with a rich appearance. The Tang Contemporary Art Center exhibits artists from Europe, Asia, Africa and other regions, reflecting multiple reflections on contemporary life. K Space presents the latest work by Shenzhen artist Zhou Li, continuing her usual visual language and expressing her thoughts in an abstract way.

Galleries from the Greater Bay Area also took center stage, with Blue Bank Gallery presenting a group exhibition of six artists entitled "Semantic Semantics". The Mangrove Gallery exhibits many paintings by artist Liang Quan, with its most iconic ink collage, spreading out a calm and distant Zen.

Renowned performance artist Li Binyuan's Face-Imprint evokes reverie about physical, material, and social relationships. THE GALLERY FROM MACAU REPRESENTED HUA GALLERY & HUMARISHED CLUB TO BRING THE LATEST PAINTINGS BY RENOWNED ARTIST ZHOU CHUNYA, AS WELL AS XUE SONG'S CLASSIC WORK "LANDSCAPE MAP".

"It was bought by a collector in the Greater Bay Area in half a day"

In recent years, Shenzhen's artistic and cultural atmosphere has attracted widespread attention. The "return" of the art fair brand from Shanghai to Shenzhen shows to some extent the confidence of the art market in the economic and cultural development of the Greater Bay Area.

"We come here to make friends, followed by selling." Hua Yuzhou, founder of Fahrenheit Gallery from Macau, said that Shenzhen's cultural and artistic development is catching up with economic development, bringing greater room for improvement to the art market.

At this exhibition, the gallery brought works by famous artists such as Zhou Chunya. "We have the confidence to participate in the exhibition in Shanghai, but we appeared as a newcomer in Shenzhen, hoping to expand the depth and breadth of the collection, and on the first day of the exhibition, Zhou Chunya's works were marked with red dots in half a day, which was bought by collectors in the Greater Bay Area."

Zhou Mo, director of Blue Bank Gallery from Shenzhen, believes that collectors in the Greater Bay Area have the characteristics of "not being defined", their preferences are diverse, the awareness of art collecting is gradually rising, and there is still a large market to be tapped.

Tong Juanjuan, Executive Director of Hive Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing, said: "We love the vibrant art scene in Shenzhen and look forward to it. Audiences in Shenzhen are enthusiastic about new art and new concepts. ”

Zhou Dawei (co-founder of DnA SHENZHEN):

Distance yourself from other art fairs

Yangcheng Evening News: What are the characteristics of DnA SHENZHEN?

Zhou Dawei: After two years of separation from Shenzhen, we eagerly look forward to the success of this exhibition. We brought China's leading design and art gallery groups, and we also received an enthusiastic response from the galleries. The organizers suggested that galleries bring design works to the exhibition, so we saw that galleries that mainly painted on shelves also brought design works. In the past, design was treated as a functional product, but in fact, design works can be tasted and collected like works of art.

DnA SHENZHEN is the first large-scale art fair in China that emphasizes the linkage of art and design, and designers enter the public eye as artists. Buyers can be found here for works of art in every price range. Art gallery-level collections, professional art collections, design home collections, including art consumer goods and trendy toys, consumers can get what they need here.

Yangcheng Evening News: Every year, various art fairs come out one after another, what are your advantages?

Zhou Dawei: DnA SHENZHEN will meet you in Shenzhen at this time of year, just as ART021 and Art Beijing are held in Shanghai and Beijing at the same time of year. We look forward to growing with the city's artistic atmosphere. The art scene in the Greater Bay Area needs the support of galleries and collectors. We care about the ecological chain development of the entire art industry.

We bring the experience of holding boutique art fairs and our understanding of art trading to the city, and more local art galleries, local enthusiasts, and local collectors will spontaneously connect together to create a strong artistic atmosphere in the city and form a reputable boutique art fair. For galleries, we can invite the right collectors; For art lovers, it is necessary to give the artwork a textured visiting environment and create a high-quality viewing experience.

Yangcheng Evening News: Did the gallery's sales meet expectations?

Zhou Dawei: Galleries and organizers are very optimistic about the development of art in Shenzhen, but it takes time to cultivate, and this process took Shanghai 10 years. The Shenzhen exhibition group has grown from scratch and has been amazingly fast. Compared with the ART021 held in Shanghai ten years ago, the scale of DnA exhibition and transaction in Shenzhen has greatly exceeded.

The collectors' collecting preferences in Shenzhen have surprised us in a way that may not be available in other cities. Collectors in Shanghai and Beijing think a lot, and collectors in Shenzhen buy art based on intuition and preference.

The number of visitors on the first day shows that the number of people paying attention to art in the Greater Bay Area is rising. This year's DnA focuses on local collectors in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area, with registrants showing that the majority of the population is younger than other cities.

Yangcheng Evening News: Local galleries in Shenzhen have participated in DnA less than before, what information does this reveal?

Zhou Dawei: If 2020 is the "first year of galleries" in Shenzhen, now may be an opportunity to review in stages. Good galleries are constantly changing to wash their works of art. There are only a limited number of works that meet our selection criteria, as we continue to control the quality of the exhibits. Therefore, this time the number of more than 30 is maintained. We plan to expand, but not very much. Exhibitors also do not welcome unbridled expansion, which is not in line with the laws of the market. After two years away from Shenzhen, I still start from scratch in my heart and regard this time as a new beginning.

Yangcheng Evening News: With the resumption of customs clearance, holding internationally famous art fairs in Hong Kong has a lot of momentum, what challenges will it bring to mainland art fairs?

Zhou Dawei: We have communicated with the participating Chinese galleries, and the galleries hope that China's own brand art fair will become bigger and stronger, and have its own artistic voice. We need to build our own look and distance ourselves from other art fairs.

This art fair not only has a sales link, but also a high-quality viewing experience for the public. Forums and special programs are non-profit-oriented, with no entry threshold for visitors, which is a popular channel for sharing artistic experiences.
