It is also very strange to say that often the prosperous world is the most prone to corrupt officials, just like the prosperous world of Kangqian, there is a huge greed that has been famous for thousands of years, named Hezhen.
Many people's impression of Hezhen seems to stay on the image of the classic TV series "Iron Tooth Copper Tooth Ji Xiaolan", in the play, Heyan fat head and big ears, insatiable greed, often fighting with Ji Xiaolan wits and courage, but always inferior, everywhere is teased and suppressed.
However, the real Hezhen was not like this, not only handsome in appearance, but also quite talented, as a military minister, he was worthy of the Qianlong Emperor's right and left arm.
He Yan was born in the eleventh year of Qianlong, thirty-five years younger than the Qianlong Emperor, and was a Manchurian Red Bannerman. At the age of nineteen, He yan took the imperial examination and the result was sun mountain. Of course, this is not because he lacks talent, but only the examination of the Four Books and Five Classics, and cannot show the talent of Hezhen, he read a lot of books, but he can't play it.
Although he did not go to high school, for Hezhen, the imperial examination was not the only way to enter the army, and don't forget, he was a relative of the Emperor and the State of zheng'er Bajing. Zu Shang made great military achievements because he followed Nurhaci and Huang Taiji in constant wars, so he was awarded a hereditary title of a third-class light car lieutenant, and at the age of nineteen, he inherited the title, which was similar to Thatu Yin's entry.
Three years later, he entered the palace and became a bodyguard, serving in the royal honor guard, not a big official, but could often hang out in front of the emperor's eyes.

According to the "Biography of He Yan Lie", He Yan was talented, quick-witted, versatile, diligent and studious, and proficient in the manchu, Chinese, Mongolian, and Tibetan languages; he was also friendly and enthusiastic, capable in his work, and achieved outstanding results. He is not a man who does not learn no skills, but a man who has both knowledge and power.
So, once he seized the opportunity, he was able to climb up quickly.
In the "Lang Qianji Wen Chubi", a small incident is recorded, once out of the palace, the Qianlong Emperor read the reports of various places in the palanquin, one of which reported that the main offender escaped, Qianlong was slightly angry, and then said a sentence "The tiger is out of the wood". At that time, all the lieutenants who were subordinate to him did not understand his meaning, and only Hezhen stood up and explained the emperor's meaning to everyone. This phrase comes from the Analects, which means that the keepers are responsible for it. The emperor did not expect that there were still people among the lieutenants who read the Analects, and he asked with great interest about hezhen's family lineage and age, and intended to promote him.
Soon, He Yan became a capable minister and helped Qianlong deal with many tricky things, especially li Shiyao's decisive and simple handling of the corruption case, Qianlong was overjoyed, and promoted him to Hubu Shangshu, and four years later, he was appointed as the official Shangshu.
And Kan
These two officials have a lot of real power, one manages the world's money and grain, and the other manages the civil and military officials.
Washu began to expand his power frenziedly, and began to accumulate a large amount of wealth, embezzlement, bribery, demand, money lending, shopkeeping, tax collection, exploitation of salt merchants, etc., almost to the point of lawlessness.
He Yan accumulated wealth step by step, even to the point where he was rich enough to rival the country, and the name of giant greed was known to everyone.
Qianlong also seemed to turn a blind eye to him, and the Qianlong Emperor was extremely lenient in punishing corruption.
However, Jiaqing, who took over the throne, hated corruption to the bone, and he once wrote a poem cursing corrupt officials:
The Manchu Dynasty wenwu wore brocade robes, and Lu Yan and Yuan were inseparable;
A cup of fine wine and a thousand people's blood, several bowls of fat soup and ten thousand surnames.
When people cry, the sky cries, and the laughter is high and the cry is high;
Cattle and sheep pay and the jackal to shepherd, and bear the emperor's favor as Ercao.
Unlike Qianlong, Jiaqing's life was quite simple, and he sincerely hoped that the people could live a good life, so he deeply resented those corrupt officials, and in the face of such a huge greed as Hezhen, Jiaqing made up his mind to eradicate it from the beginning of his position.
Portrait of the Jiaqing Emperor
After Qianlong passed the throne to Jiaqing, he served as emperor for three years, still holding the real power, and taking precautions, he began to vigorously cultivate cronies, with the intention of restricting Jiaqing's rights in the future.
But despite the fact that He Yan Bafang drilled camp, Jiaqing was already full of murderous intent on him.
In the fourth year of Jiaqing, Qianlong died, and plans for Hezhen began.
On the one hand, Jiaqing appointed Hezhen and Prince Rui to join the premier's state funeral, and on the other hand, he sent his teacher Zhu Jue, the inspector of Anhui, to serve in Beijing, and Hezhen guarded the spirit day and night in the Great Interior, could not enter and exit, cut off contact with the outside world, and became an isolated island.
Outside the palace, at the behest of the Jiaqing Emperor, the courtiers had begun an overwhelming impeachment.
On the eighth day of the first lunar month, after the promulgation of Qianlong's will, Jiaqing announced that he would be imprisoned and sent to prison, and ordered that Liu Yong, Dong Yan, and others be responsible for confiscating He yan's family property and interrogating them together.
In just five days, Qianlong's bones were not cold, and Jiaqing struck hard, beating this former courtier into prison.
Jiaqing publicly read out Hezhen's twenty major crimes, involving 8 items of property, but Jiaqing, who hated corrupt officials, did not mention a word of "greed", but turned "greed" into "hiding", which extremely vaguely explained the major crimes committed by Hezhen.
This seems to be easy to understand, first, because there are many people involved in the case, for the sake of the overall situation, Jiaqing cannot bring all the people to justice, so he avoids corruption and ignores it, but investigates and punishes one person on the grounds of huge assets. Second, as a favorite vassal of the former dynasty, he became a giant greed and Qianlong created favorable conditions, and if he was punished with "greed", it would be equivalent to sitting on Qianlong's indulgence in greed, so that he would not disgrace his father and emperor.
On the eighteenth day of the first month of the fourth year of Jiaqing, after court deliberation, the Jiaqing Emperor made a decision to execute Ling Chi to death, and immediately implemented it. After the court meeting was over, what awaited Hezhen was Ling Chi.
And just when He yan was about to suffer Ling Chi, his daughter-in-law, Qianlong's most beloved daughter, that is, Jiaqing's sister, Gu Lun and Princess Xiao went to the palace to intercede, so the Jiaqing Emperor changed his sentence to He Yan in prison.
At that time, when He Yan was fifty years old, he left a rather interesting desperate poem in prison:
Fifty years of dreams are true, and now it is a red dust.
He was full of water and recognized the cigarette as a backstage.
