Xu Zhuoyun is 93 years old.

He is a historian who Xu Zhiyuan said he wants to "borrow wisdom from him", and he is also a "Internet celebrity wisdom old man" who has benefited countless young people, and Wang Xiaobo was one of his students.

Although Xu Zhuoyun's whole body can only move his right index finger now, he still insists on imparting knowledge, there is too little time, and he wants to leave too much to this world.

In 1930, Xu Zhuoyun and his brother were born in Xiamen, just during the war, their mother had a disease, the twins were not nutritionally enough, and Xu Zhuoyun's flesh and bones in the womb were not fully developed, and he was highly disabled at birth and could not move at all.

The Anti-Japanese War broke out in full force, and Xu Zhuoyun lived a life of upheaval with his family, and it was also from that time that the shadow of death shrouded his life. On the way to escape, he witnessed the tragic situation of innocent people's corpses strewn across the field, the indiscriminate strafing of Japanese military aircraft, and the little friends who played together in the morning had fallen in front of him in the afternoon.

Xu Zhuoyun, who could not walk, could only be picked by the porter, but one late night, the porter who picked Xu Zhuoyun suddenly fell to the ground and died, and another porter went to chase the team that left. In the barren mountains and mountains, the young Xu Zhuoyun could not move, so he could only fall helplessly next to the dead porter, waiting for his family to come to him.

"Fire, blood, displacement, life and death, people are not like people", Xu Zhuoyun, who grew up in war, hunger and fear, has since begun to understand that the fate of home and country is closely linked.

At the age of twenty-eight, Xu Zhuoyun was finally able to perform surgery, correct his feet, and walk upright. Until then, he could only sit in a chair. In the face of the injustice of fate, Xu Zhuoyun still said strongly: "My misfortune (disability) has become my luck, because I can concentrate on studying." God gave me such things, I will use it up - for China, for the world, for humanity, it doesn't matter if I have a life. ”

It is not so much that he chose history as that history chose him. Xu Zhuoyun did not dare to relax and study for a moment, and finally was admitted to the Department of Foreign Languages of National Taiwan University, and the principal Fu Sinian said to him: "You should study history." ”

In the dark, he had his own choice, and this sentence became the direction of his life. After attending the University of Chicago and studying economics, archaeology, religion, and sociology, he eventually became a historian.
