Xian Xinghai, alias ldquo Huang Xun rdquo; was born in Panyu County, Guangdong, in 1905 to a poor family of boatmen in Macau. His father died before he was born, and he lived with the help of his mother and the support of his grandfather. He entered a private school at the age of 6. After his grandfather died of illness, he dropped out of school and went to Singapore with his mother.
