It turned out that predicting the trajectory of a typhoon in the next 10 days required 4-5 hours of simulation on a high-performance computer cluster of 3,000 servers; Now with this Pangea Meteorology model, it only takes 10 seconds to complete inference and prediction, and it is also a single server, a single GPU card, and this historic breakthrough was successfully verified in May 2023.
In the May "Mawa" path forecast, Pangu's large model predicted five days in advance that it would turn its path in the waters east of Taiwan Island. As early as August 2022 last year, the Pangu Meteorological Model predicted the trajectory and landing time of Typhoon Saddle with an accuracy rate of 90%.
