Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

author:Read at ten o'clock

On June 2, 1927, the entire Tsinghua Garden was immersed in grief.

A group of famous teachers from Beiping University gathered here to hold a farewell ceremony for Wang Guowei, a master of traditional Chinese studies who committed suicide by throwing himself into the lake.

At this time, a thin middle-aged man wearing a long dark robe walked heavily to the spirit.

In full view of everyone, he slowly lifted the hem of his robe, knelt on his knees, and slammed his head heavily on the green brick.

Everyone was stunned by the scene in front of them, but they quickly woke up, and everyone gathered behind him, knelt down in unison, and prostrated to the deceased to make a final farewell.

Afterwards, he wrote an inscription for the deceased: "... But this independent spirit, the free mind, has endured for thousands of generations, and has been with the heavens and the earth..."

This weak middle-aged man is Chen Yinke, the most famous scholar in modern China, a master of traditional Chinese studies who combines historians, linguists, and ancient writers.

When Liang Qichao mentions him, he always humbly says: "His knowledge is better than mine." ”

Wu Mi praised: "He is the most knowledgeable person in China today."

Fu Sinian was even more praised: "His knowledge must be the first person in three hundred years!" ”

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

In that era of great generations, chen Yinke was praised by many top masters, and Chen Yinke was worthy of being a "master among masters".

It is said that one step to the sky is a fluke, and the accumulation of thick and thin hair is the right reason.

Just like Chen Yinke's life, he worked quietly and unswervingly, and eventually became a generation of masters.

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

From a child to a scholar: silently guarded

Chen Yinke was a true descendant of the family, his grandfather Chen Baozhen was a feudal official in the late Qing Dynasty, and his father Chen Sanli was a famous poet at that time.

Under the teachings of his father, Chen Yinke read the history of the Scriptures from an early age and studied diligently.

One day, Chen Yinke overheard a small talk between his grandfather and a close friend.

Grandfather said to a close friend, "Once when I was in my hometown, I was sick and coughing, and I couldn't cure it for a long time. It just so happened that there were drug vendors outside the door shouting and selling, known as 'ginseng treatment cough, the effect of the drug', I immediately bought it when I was in a hurry to go to the doctor. I didn't expect a few doses of decoction to go down, and the cough was really good. ”

Grandfather laughed again: "Afterwards, I thought carefully, ginseng was originally a precious medicinal material, but the sellers of the medicine sold at a low price, and it is estimated that it is not a real ginseng, but a thorn." ”

The speaker has no intention, the listener intends.

In order to verify whether his grandfather's judgment was correct, Chen Yin ke consulted the "Compendium of Materia Medica", and then told his grandfather with satisfaction: "It is shaped like ginseng and can cure cough, and there is indeed a record on the Materia Medica." ”

My grandfather loved this rigorous attitude of learning, so he chose Chen Yinke to go to a famous Japanese university for further study.

Chen Yinke also gladly accepted.

Because he understands: to be a man, you can have no ambition, but you can't move forward; you can have no talent, but you must enrich yourself.

In the nearly two decades since then, Chen Yinke has been walking on the road to study.

Because of his belief that "to read a book, you must first read", Chen Yinke spent nearly 7 years in Germany learning Sanskrit, a "dead script" that only exists in the literature.

When he first started studying, Chen Yinke didn't know a word, and every lesson was as difficult as listening to a book from heaven.

The students chose to withdraw from school one after another, but Chen Yinke did not believe in evil, he formulated a careful study plan, and learned in the morning and at dusk.

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

Many times, when he stopped writing and rested, he realized that the sky was already bright, and he could only laugh at himself: "Unconsciously, I studied all night." ”

When asked whether he was tired or not, Chen Yinke only said lightly: "Forgot, I just think the sunrise in Berlin is beautiful." ”

In order to keep up with the progress of learning as soon as possible, Chen Yinke checked the materials in the library and went into the bookstore to find rare literature.

Buying rare literature is very expensive.

In order to save money and buy books, even a rich child like Chen Yinke can only wear worn-out clothes, eat cheap bread, and live a poor life.

His other classmates in Germany were indulging in sex day and night, unhappy.

But Chen Yinke was unmoved.

He said: "Life is like tea, as long as everything is adhered to, it may be bitter for a while, but it will never be bitter for a lifetime." However, wasting time and learning nothing, but it is our students who stay in foreign countries who are most irresponsible to themselves. ”

It was in this perseverance that Chen Yinke successfully completed Sanskrit at the University of Berlin.

He also received the highest evaluation from his mentor: "Chen Yinke is the most successful scholar from Bo to Jing, and the most promising reading seed in China today." ”

From a child to a scholar, after twenty years of silent persistence, Chen Yin has broken through the cocoon and become a butterfly.

In fact, this is the way things are in the world: to attain supreme glory, one needs to give up the pleasures of depravity.

And the only thing we can do is to work silently, slowly become stronger, and wait for the opportunity to come.

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

From scholar to master: practice steadily

Opportunities are always left to those who are prepared.

In the autumn of 1924, the news of the recruitment of tutors at tsinghua university's National College spread in the academic community.

Guoxue everyone Wang Guowei, Liang Qichao, the core figure of the Pengshu Transformation Law, and Zhao Yuanren, a chinese linguistics master, have successively received letters of appointment.

At that time, Chen Yinke was unknown in China, but he still became the fourth tutor of Tsinghua Guoxue With his profound foundation in Traditional Chinese Studies and his excellent reputation in foreign academic circles.

At that time, Tsinghua University was the highest university in China with the same name as Peking University and Yanda University, and there were many famous teachers in the school.

Chen Yinke, who has just entered the school, wants to establish a foothold here, and the difficulty can be imagined.

But he didn't care, always skillfully blending Chinese and Western cultures when teaching, and silently teaching things to students.

Every time Chen Yinke's teaching time came, the classroom was always full.

Professors Zhu Ziqing and Wu Mi will come to observe, Feng Youlan, dean of the College of Literature, often comes to rub classes, and masters and students of Peking University and Yan are even more in groups of three or five to "steal teachers".

Gradually, the news that "Chen Yinke of Tsinghua Garden is a professor among professors" spread in Peking University.

In this way, Chen Yinke finally laid a piece of the sky for himself.

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

In 1937, japan invaded in an all-round way, and Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nankai and other universities moved west to Kunming to form the National Southwest United University.

Chen Yinke also traveled with Tsinghua teachers and students, but most of the lesson plans were unfortunately lost during the transfer.

Standing on the podium of the Unipotentiated General Assembly, Chen Yinke said:

"Even if the manuscript is lost, I hereby solemnly promise you that I will not speak of what my predecessors have said; I will not speak of what foreigners have said; I will not speak of what I have said. In every class from now on, I will only talk about what has never been told. ”

The speakers on the stage threw their voices on the ground, and the audience applauded thunderously.

Chen Yinke is so domineering!

In the days of Kunming, dodging The Japanese air raids was something that the joint masters and students had to do every day.

Everyone knows that Chen Yinke's eyesight is not good, his physical strength is poor, as long as the air defense siren sounds, there will always be a teacher who will lead several students to run wildly with him to escape.

Because everyone has reached a consensus: "Protecting students is to preserve hope, and protecting Chen Yinke is to preserve the essence of the country, which is the first priority." ”

Rome was not built in a day, nor were the masters built in a day.

If there really is a life in this world, it is just another name for thick and thin hair.

Chen Yinke succeeded, and he had quietly grown into a generation of Guoxue masters.

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

From hundreds of steels to soft fingers: quietly Hou

Someone once said: Those predestined loves are by no means providential, but the infatuation of both parties who love each other.

Chen Yinke harvested this love of waiting for the flowers to blossom.

When he first arrived at Tsinghua Garden, he devoted all his energy to his work and had no time to take care of his personal feelings.

During this time, the family's fancy marriage and colleagues enthusiastically introduced, all of which were rejected by Chen Yinke on the grounds that "fate has not arrived".

Because he firmly believes that "since the years are long, true love is worth waiting for." ”

In this way, Chen Yinke became the only oldest leftover man left in Tsinghua Garden.

However, when the fate arrived, no one could stop it.

One day, a colleague asked Chen Yinke for advice: "A friend's family has a picture scroll, and the money is signed 'Nan Zhusheng', I don't know who this 'Nan Zhusheng' is? ”

After pondering, Chen Yinke told his colleagues that this person must be a descendant of Tang Jingsong, a famous patriotic general in the late Qing Dynasty.

Tang Jingsong was the governor of Taiwan in the late Qing Dynasty, nan Zhusheng was his nickname, and Chen Yinke, who had admired him for a long time, decided to visit his descendants.

Sure enough, this painting was painted by Tang Jingsong's granddaughter Tang Yun herself.

Tang Yun studied at Beiyang Women's Division and Jinling Women's University, and his painting skills were deeply rooted in the true transmission of the old man in Sanyuan.

At this time, Tang Yun was thirty years old and had not yet married, only because she also had the good wish of "just wanting to be with you, starting from the old moon and finally Meng Po".

At the first meeting, Tang Yun's generous temperament made Chen Yinke feel like a spring breeze; and Chen Yinke's elegant and humble demeanor also made Tang Yun quite devoted, and the two soon fell in love.

In 1928, Chen Yinke and Tang Yun held a wedding ceremony in Shanghai.

"I love you" three words, only three seconds to say, three hours to explain, but to prove that it takes a lifetime.

Before marriage, Tang Yun was a big lady with "ten fingers that do not stick to the spring water of the yang", but after marriage, she was polished by life into a good hand at taking care of housework.

Chen Yinke was frail and sickly, so Tang Yun asked someone to buy a pregnant black goat and learned to milk the goat only to increase nutrition for her husband every day.

In the days of war, Tang Yun can always arrange his home warmly and quietly: cypress trees are hedges, a bunch of melons and fruits are planted under the hedges, and two rows of lentils are ordered, which is quite leisurely.

The two of them, Qin Ser and Ming, worked hand in hand to survive nearly half a century of ups and downs.

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

The most precious love is not a glance at the first sight, but many years later, still adhere to the original choice, no regrets for a lifetime.

On October 7, 1969, on his deathbed, Chen Yinke tightly held Tang Yun's hand and did not say a word, and Tang Yun also quietly guarded him.

Chen Yin left with peace of mind, and after taking care of her husband's affairs, Tang Yun calmly said to her descendants, "I am also leaving, going to heaven to find my husband." ”

After 45 days, Tang Yun followed Chen Yinke away.

Ask the world, what is love? Straight to the point that life and death are promised...

Chen Yinke: People who really work hard are always "silent"

As Tagore said in his poem: The sky leaves no trace, and the birds have passed by.

Chen Yinke's life, every bright appearance, behind it contains admirable efforts and persistence.

The cultivation of humble scholars comes from the persistence of more than ten years in the green years;

The casting of a generation of masters comes from the cultivation of the ivory tower without distraction;

The love of "holding the hand of the son" comes from waiting quietly on the road of life.

Three periods of life, three kinds of perfection, all show the world a simple wisdom: but do good deeds, do not ask about the future.

Ordinary life, heroic dreams.

Pray for ordinary us, be stupid birds that insist on flying high, and survive the time when we can't spread our wings at every moment.

Believe that one day we will stand on the highest branches and sing a song.

Encourage with the King.
