Speaking of Gongsun Zhan, one of the princes of the late Han Dynasty, many readers may only have the impression of him as Liu Bei's brother-in-law. Although Gongsun Zhan in the rendition does not have a high sense of existence, he has a great name in the main history. It is worth mentioning that although Gongsun Zhan was born into a family family, he did not use family resources to develop his own power, but relied on his high martial arts and the courage of a pioneer in battle, and broke into a prominent reputation in northern Xinjiang. During this period, Gongsun Zhan also had three first-class fierce generals under his command.

The first was the famous defender Tian Yu. In the early years, Tian Yu and Liu Bei were very good friends. When Liu Bei was attached to Gongsun Zhan, Tian Yu also came with him to serve Gongsun Zhan. After Liu Bei left, Tian Yu's position was very awkward, because Gongsun Zhan did not trust him at all, so it was even more impossible to reuse him, "although He knew that Yu had the right to plot, he could not do it." Not long after, Tian Yu heard that Cao Cao knew people and was good at his duties, so he resolutely defected to Cao Wei's clique.

Soon after, Cao Cao ordered Tian Yu to be appointed as the Taishou of Nanyang, responsible for guarding the strategically important nanyang commandery. Tian Yu did not disappoint Cao Cao, acting boldly and strategically, defending the rebellious thieves from outside the city several times. When Cao Cao heard about it, he felt that Tian Yu could be of great use, so he transferred him to northern Xinjiang to guard the town. Facts have proved that Tian Yu is indeed extremely good at defending the city, and during his reign in northern Xinjiang, he has successively defeated the Hu tribes such as Wuhuan and Xianbei, which has made countless barbarians afraid. "Wai Hu heard of his prestige and offered it. The state border is peaceful, and the people cherish it." Later, during Zhuge Liang's Northern Expedition, when he heard of Tian Yu's name, he also chose to temporarily avoid his sharp edge.

The second general was named Yan Gang, the most powerful of the three. Speaking of this person, many readers will be a little unfamiliar, but the "White Horse Yicong" led by Yan Gang can be described as famous. The Book of later Han records that "dozens of people who were good at shooting often rode on white horses, thinking that they were left and right wings, and called themselves 'white horses and righteous followers'". Yan Gang and the "White Horse Yicong" under his command were not only Gongsun Zhan's concubine troops, but also a sharp blade in his hands. During the years when Gongsun Zhan fought with the Hu people, in order to effectively restrain the heavy cavalry of the Hu people, it was necessary to be good at raiding and highly mobile light cavalry troops, and the "White Horse Yicong" came into being in this context.

Even after Gongsun Zhan turned to the Central Plains, the "White Horse Yicong" led by Yan Gang repeatedly defeated enemy troops several times larger than themselves. Gongsun Zhan's surprise attack on Youzhou and the capture and killing of Youzhou Mu Liu Yu also relied on the blitzkrieg tactics of "White Horse Yicong". However, it is a pity that when Gongsun Zhan later marched into Jizhou, he suffered a big loss in the Battle of Jieqiao. Due to Gongsun Zhan's command error, Yan Gang was unfortunately captured by Yuan Shao's general Koji Yisheng, and the three thousand "White Horse Yicong" were also lost. After this heavy blow, Gongsun Zhan was unable to plot against the Central Plains and had to return to the old nest of Youzhou.

The last general, more famous, was Zhao Yun, the personal bodyguard of the Shu lord Liu Bei. According to the "Biography of Yun Bei", Zhao Yun was from Changshan County, Hebei Province, and led his hometown Yicong to Gongsun Zhan at the time of the great chaos in the world. Curiously, for this subordinate who took the initiative to surrender, Gongsun Zhan mocked him instead: "Hearing that everyone in Guizhou wishes yuan, how can Jun he return to his heart alone, and can he be confused and can do the opposite?" It just so happened that Liu Bei was attached to Gongsun Zhan at that time, and when he saw that Zhao Yun was not valued, he deliberately befriended him and successfully attracted this general. When Liu Bei later wandered around in the Central Plains, Zhao Yun had been closely protected, and eventually ranked as the "Five Tiger Generals" of shu Han.
