Li Ao and Jin Yong: Praise and scolding

The previous article mentioned that Li Ao scolded Jin Yong. Many people know that Li Ao scolded Jin Yong, but they did not necessarily notice that Li Ao praised Jin Yong.

To say that Li Ao and Jin Yong, first of all, Huang Zhun, a composer who is also one of the four talents of Hong Kong with Jin Yong, look at a dialogue between him and Yang Lan:

Huang Chen: (I write songs) it is not a big achievement. You asked me to write a very good novel, but I can't write Bai Xianyong, I can't write Jin Yong, what do you write? Writing prose definitely cannot write Li Ao.

Yang Lan: Do you like Li Ao?

Huang Zhuan:

Yang Lan: Why?

Huang Chen: Because he does too much data...

Yang Lan: He will fight with you.

Huang Chen: ... All the data, (like) all the bad things I did, he had records.

Yang Lan: He knows.

Huang Chen: He knows better than I do. I'd rather...

Yang Lan: Divine intercourse can be done.

Huang Chen: ... Just be his reader. I read all the books he wrote, from his first book, when I was a teenager and watched Li Ao for decades. I admire Li Ao very much.

Huang Zhun said that he liked Li Ao, admired Li Ao, and had been a reader of Li Ao for decades, but he was afraid of Li Ao and did not dare to see Li Ao.

Li Ao came from a historical background, was very good at collecting information, was knowledgeable and strong in analysis, and could make people have nothing to hide. When I met him, the questions he asked could be embarrassing beyond words.

Li Ao wrote about his first meeting with Yin Haiguang:

I don't know what Yin Haiguang's first impression of me was, probably not good, I think I must still have a color for him, because the two of them talked very speculatively. I pressed him to ask him a question: "It is right to scold the Kuomintang, and the Kuomintang really deserves to scold." What I would like to ask is: You have presided over propaganda for the Kuomintang in the past, and you are a member of the Kuomintang, how do you explain this? Yin Haiguang was stunned by my sudden question, he was very unhappy, obviously unwilling to face this problem, he was very embarrassed, as if he blamed me for knowing too much, he dragged on for a long time before saying: "I have forgotten that I have been a Kuomintang!" I have no interest in this kind of historical question. Listening to his reply, I was very sad, and I felt that Yin Haiguang was not honest enough in this answer. I said, "I'm a student of history, and I'm interested in this kind of question. ”

The teacher's Yin Haiguang had still suffered from Li Ao, and others could imagine it.

The Ming Dynasty literary scholar Song Lian wrote about the strange man Deng Bi:

Deng Bi, Zi Boyi, Qin Ren also. He is seven feet long, his eyes are purple- and his opening and closing are shining like electricity. Can be a strong man, the neighbor of the bull is invincible, fist its spine, fold the servant land; the city gate stone drum, ten people scoop, Fu can lift, two hands of the trip. However, it is good to make wine, and to look at people with anger, and to avoid people when they see them: "" (Qin Shilu)

Huang Chen was both respectful and afraid of Li Ao, and had a feeling that "madness is not close, and if it is close, it will be humiliated." Deng Bi loves to drink and spread wilderness, making people afraid and afraid to approach. Although Li Ao does not play drunk and crazy, the questions he asks can make others crazy. Huang Is wise to stay away.

In fact, even Li Ao's opponent, Kuomintang officials, were afraid to see him. There is a passage in "Li Ao's Happy Vengeance":

Ye Shengkang met Cao Jianzhong one day, and Cao Jianzhong scolded Li Ao with him. Ye Shengkang said, "I am afraid that the director has misunderstood Li Ao, so why didn't I arrange to meet Li Ao?" Cao Jianzhong heard the change of color, and quickly shook his hand and said, "I don't want to see him, no one dares to see him." I've seen him, he wrote everything out for you, and you can't wash it! I laughed.

Obviously, Jin Yong did not respect Li Ao and stay away from Huang Chen, nor did he have the hatred of Kuomintang officials. He went to see Li Ao, although he also had a good conversation, but after thinking about it, Jin Yong probably regretted it, because Li Ao really "wrote everything for you."

Li Ao and Jin Yong: Praise and scolding

In 1981, Li Ao wrote in the article "Sanmao-style Hypocrisy" and "Jin Yong-style Hypocrisy":

Jin Yong came to Taiwan and came to my house one night and talked for eight hours. I reproached him for not participating in any "National Construction Council" and for losing his previous position. He said he attended and said a lot of criticism. I said that this is not enough, the gain is not worth the loss, the small scolding helps a lot, and it is really disappointing that you participate in this kind of meeting. Then talking about the martial arts he wrote, I said that Hu Shizhi said that martial arts novels were "vulgar", and I felt the same way. I don't look at martial arts, and with the intellectual training, cognitive training, literary training, and secondary school training I have received, I cannot accept this absurd content, although I know that you have achieved unprecedented results in this regard and have made a fortune. Jin Yong's demeanor is excellent, and he does not think much of my words. He was very modest in explaining his point of view. He specifically mentioned that after the death of his son, he studied Buddhism intensively, and he was already a very devout Buddhist. I said: "The Buddhist scriptures talk about the 'Seven Dharma Treasures', the 'Seven Sacred Treasures', and the 'Seven Virtues Wealth', although the 'Sutra of Retribution', the 'Sutra of No Causes', the 'Sutra of Treasure Accumulation', the 'Chang'a Han Sutra', the 'Zhong'a Han Sutra', and so on are a bit different, but in general, all of them take the abandonment of property as the element. The so-called 'renouncing everything and not staining', the so-called 'giving as you go, sparing no stinginess'. You have so much property around you, you say you are a devout Buddhist, how do you interpret your property? Jin Yong listened to my words, a little embarrassed, he could not reply. Why? Because Jin Yong's so-called belief in Buddhism is actually a kind of "method of choice", he believes in anything that is beneficial to him; he pretends not to see anything that is unfavorable to him, and its nature is no different from that of a good man and a woman, and the selfish component is greater than everything, and you must not be serious. He is hypocritical, and this hypocrisy, which is a family of its own, can be called "Jinyong-style hypocrisy."

Li Ao's question, Jin Yong not only could not answer at that time. In the decades that followed, Jin Yong did not reply.

In 2005, Li Ao also talked about Jin Yong in Dou Wentao's "Threesomes":

I looked down on him. What's that stuff? What kind of things does the martial arts say? Hu Shi said that it was a vulgar thing. Wuxia novels are not in the flow of Chinese writing. What's that stuff? A person can fly over the wall, where is this thing? It's something like a god at all.

If you talk about the chivalrous part of it, Jin Yong himself can't do anything. What Huashan on the sword, on a fart sword! Stingy. Have you donated some money for the comfort women? To bring down little Japan, have you engaged in any kind of sports, ah, no. He made his own fortune and became a self-made man. Jin Yong came to visit me at my house, talked to me, and said that he believed in Buddhism. I said what about your property? Have you donated it? According to the Buddhist scriptures, do you have to donate your money? He didn't, so believing in Buddhism is all fake, and I think these people are all fakes.

Novels are fun to read, that's one thing, acting in movies, flying around. It's fake at first glance, hanging a steel cable. So everyone was fooled and deceived.

You said that so many people like Jin Yong novels, I understand what you mean. Do you like Rahulqin? like. But after you listen to the violin, you will find that the sound of the huqin is harsh. Why harsh? Its resonance box is too small. The sound of the violin cello is different. After you see the better, you can't look at the bad one. You see the little village girl is good-looking, and after seeing the big beauty, you find that the village girl is not good-looking. Why? Once the sea was shipwrecked as water, your realm is high. After you are high, these problems will not occur.

(Reading martial arts novels) is at least a waste of time. There are many university professors and scientists who also like to watch it. I confess that the dragon is alive, well written, and fun. However, Jin Yong himself is not on the line with his novel, which is inconsistent. You talked about chivalry for half a day, you yourself are a stingy ghost, so what is chivalry? ...... It's all fake. But like the English poet Byron, when he was in favor of the Greek resistance to Turkey, he personally came to the war. Although he died of fever. ......。

Li Ao's criticism of Jin Yong boils down to two points: one is that martial arts novels do not enter the stream, and the other is that Jin Yong is hypocritical.

Li Ao said that martial arts novels are not in the flow, and the realm of watching martial arts novels is not high, which is a waste of time. Like after listening to the violin cello, you don't like to listen to the Huqin, and after the realm changes, you won't like to read martial arts novels.

Many Jin Yong fans disagree with this statement. In fact, Li Ao said it very reasonably, it really is so. This happens to everyone: one day, we suddenly find that we no longer like something that we used to be obsessed with.

When I was a child, I watched part of the fairy tale Pipilu serial, and I was fascinated, and I was eager to see it all, but I didn't have the opportunity, and when I had the opportunity later, I found that I couldn't look at it anymore. Of course, this principle also applies to Li Ao's works, many people like to read Li Ao when they are young, and later they don't like it.

I think this has nothing to do with the high or low level, but more precisely, it should be that time has changed, people's temperament has changed, and therefore taste has changed.

Moreover, for me personally, Li Ao's novels, I only finished reading "Beijing Fayuan Temple", and the rest really can't be read. It reads quite like Shen Congwen said that "two clever braincases fight". And Jin Yong's novels, in addition to "Deer Ding" did not read again, several other previously loved to watch, and then picked up, also like.

Li Ao said that Jin Yong was hypocritical, divided into two aspects: one is that Jin Yong's novels are written in chivalrous and righteous, but Jin Yong himself is not chivalrous; second, Jin Yong claims to be a devout Buddhist, but does not give up his property according to the Buddhist scriptures.

In this regard, Jin Yong could not refute it. This can be seen as Jin Yong's demeanor, and it can also be understood that Li Ao is too powerful, and Jin Yong is reluctant to provoke Li Ao, who is good at fighting.

Li Ao said a thing (originally wanted to quote the original words, but forgot the source, can only state its general meaning), he wrote an article scolding so-and-so, so-and-so himself did not respond, his friends could not help but go out for him to scold Li Ao, so-and-so knew that instead of being grateful, he complained about the troubles of his friends, the reason was: "Li Ao scolded me, I do not return my mouth, he scolded this time even if it is; if I return to my mouth, he will scold more fiercely." ”

Li Ao's fierceness can be seen here. Writing articles to scold people and write complaints to people, Li Ao used to make good use of them, not only individuals, but even the government was also accused by him of admitting defeat and losing money.

In addition, a closer look at "Sanmao-style Hypocrisy" and "Jin Yong-style Hypocrisy" can be found that the first half of Sanmao is written in an almost completely derogatory description: "I have a bad impression of her", "Sanmao's words and deeds are nothing more than white tiger star kefu, Baiyun township-style escape, leukemia-style international route, and boiled water-style flood feelings."

Later, when it is written about Jin Yong, Li Ao is praised in scolding:

1, talk with Jin Yong for eight hours, it can be seen that the conversation is very happy.

2, admit that Jin Yong has unprecedented achievements in writing martial arts novels, and has made a fortune. (As the interview says, "I admit, the dragon is alive, well written, and fun.") ”)

3, said that Jin Yong "has excellent demeanor" and "is very modest".

From this point of view, in fact, Li Ao's evaluation of Jin Yong is already extremely high. Why do you say this, just look at Li Ao's writing when he first saw Yin Haiguang:

The dragon characters of the previous generation were trapped on this island, and I saw that there were only two people who were qualified: one was Hu Shi, and the other was Yin Haiguang. ...... When I entered NTU, it was the time when Yin Haiguang was at its reddest, and it was also the time when "Free China" was at its most popular, and his dragon temperament naturally made me admire, and he asked Zhang Hao to ask me to see him, and I was naturally very willing.

The appointment was scheduled in the afternoon, and at Yin Haiguang's house, I went as promised. It was Yin Haiguang who opened the door, and his impression on me was really bad: thin and small figure, limpy feet rubbing and pedaling, rough hands, gray hair, wind and frost face, two small eyes with poor symmetry, staring at you unfriendly from under the triangular eyelids. His head and limbs were very stiff, and he closed his lips tightly, looking forward to his own male form. It was really a form, because his shape was really very rare, but he insisted on being honest with the middle shape and the outside, and the result was as if his outer thinness was about to be cracked by his inner greatness, and it seemed that it really made me uncomfortable. "Why did he do this? So nervous? Russell's disciples shouldn't be like this! "I thought to myself." He is not at all like a thinker, not like a philosopher, not like a university professor, he is like a person who sells Spring Palace paintings at the door of the North Gate Post Office, of course, those who sell Spring Palace paintings will not take care of Self-Xiong. "I think so, I have indeed committed a great sin of disrespect in my heart, but I can't help but think otherwise, I really feel sorry for him from the bottom of my heart. To make matters worse, a furry thing came out of his back—a big wolfhound. This wolfhound, named "Leader" by Yin Haiguang, was a lackey of the Nazi Party's honorific title for Hitler. Whether the "leader" is a "leader" is incomparably powerful, and compared with Yin Haiguang, it shows Yin Haiguang's indecency more and more. "He really shouldn't have raised this undemocratic thing." I think.

...... My first conversation with Yin Haiguang ended without speculation. I had a very bad impression of him, and although I liked his radiant articles, I was so disgusted with him that I didn't even want to take his class.

For the teacher Yin Haiguang he admired, Li Ao was still ruthless. In contrast, Li Ao already liked Jin Yong. If so, why is the scolding so heavy? I think it stems from the different personalities of the two men.

Li Ao is a fighter. In his memoirs, he wrote:

After I was released from prison, I used the "Thousand Autumn Review" every month to crack down on the devil with the Kuomintang as the main axis, from martial law to the lifting of strict law, all the way to the endless blows, inseparable and inexplicable. The Kuomintang naturally resisted stubbornly, and from the first period of robbery and prohibition began,...... In the seventy-fourth period, all robberies were banned. Until the death of the Kuomintang master Jiang's father and son, Lee Teng-hui Hao Baicun and other lackeys took over, no matter how I was blocked by "five blocks," "seven blocks," and "eight blocks," the "Thousand Autumn Review" was still "released on schedule" against all odds, and generally leapt forward, roundabout, and creeping forward under the progress of one volume per month. ...... Along the way, sometimes the situation is almost tug-of-war. Taking the publication of the fifty-eighth issue as an example, on July 23, 1986, the Kuomintang sent a brigade of people and horses to the binding factory and snatched away four thousand copies; I did not yield, and reprinted, and on July 30, the brigade directly attacked the binding factory and snatched four thousand copies; I did not give in, and reprinted again, and on August 4, another brigade of people and horses directly pounced on the binding factory and snatched away fifteen hundred copies. I didn't give in and printed again. ...... This kind of stalemate between you robbing you and I out of mine again and again is more than enough to be listed in the entire world record book. In the end, the lackeys were overwhelmed and gave up. In the end, the victory belonged to Li Ao, who became a veritable "devil terminator".

Li Ao said, "Whatever is good in the heart, there is no regret in nine deaths," and he did not hesitate to make sacrifices for his faith. He emphasized the practical application of knowledge and advocated that intellectuals practice it. He despised intellectuals who did not match words with deeds, and who said one thing and did another. His criticism of Jin Yong is based on this:

He criticized Jin Yong for depicting chivalry in his novels, but he was not chivalrous; he criticized Jin Yong for claiming to be a devout Buddhist, but for failing to give up his property as required by the Buddhist scriptures.

When it comes to donating money and practicing heroic righteousness, Li Ao really has the confidence: one of them is to donate a million DOLLARs to help the comfort women in Taiwan in order to fight against little Japan. Therefore, Jin Yong, who is much richer than him, in his view, is "rich and self-made" and "stingy".

Li Ao wants to be used through the world, for the sake of faith and pursuit, "the heart is good, nine deaths without regret."

Jin Yong is different from Li Ao. First of all, Jin Yong should be regarded as a successful businessman, and secondly, a successful writer. Wuxia novels were originally written to sell newspapers, and newspapers were originally to make money. Chivalry was not his belief, and for him, perhaps money was more important than chivalry. And he believed in Buddhism only for cultivation, not for the sake of guangda Buddhism. Selective belief in Buddhist scriptures is also understandable.

Li Ao and Jin Yong: Praise and scolding

Therefore, should it be said that Li Ao is good and Jin Yong is not good? I don't think so, we have to abandon the idea of either/or.

First of all, most writers who have great works are not written with great intentions.

Secondly, if you are asked, do you want your children to become Li Ao? I'm afraid most people have to shake their heads. Ask again, do you want your children to become Jin Yong? Most people should nod.

People who like Li Ao, especially young people, must know that Li Ao cannot learn and cannot learn, and without Li Ao's skills and luck, learning Li Ao will make himself miserable, and even harm his family very badly. Maybe some people want to be Li Ao, but no one wants their children to be Li Ao.

You can admire Li Ao, you can admire Li Ao, but don't learn from Li Ao.

Li Ao is like a unique star in the night sky, admiring it, it is a bright star; to do it, but you have to burn yourself.
