According to legend, in the second half of the 3rd century AD, Marino lived on the island of Albert in present-day Croatia's Dalmatian archipelago, a stonemason who was persecuted for his propaganda of Christianity. He sailed away from his homeland, crossed the Adriatic Sea, came to Mount Titano, lived in caves on cliffs, preached Christianity to pagans, fasted and prayed, put an end to evil, and was enshrined as a saint. Later, he accepted a group of people who had fled here to escape persecution by the Inquisition, gradually forming a "stonemason commune". Later, the "Mason Commune" proclaimed the republic, Marino is regarded as the founder of the country, in honor of him, the country was named the Republic of San Marino, and the first Marino settled, later formed city as the capital of the country, also named "San Marino City".
