Pierre Auguste Renoir

(Pierre-Auguste Renoir,1841—1919)

Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Pierre-Auguste Renoir) was an important painter of Impressionism. Born in 1841 in the small town of Limoges in Haute-Vienne, France, he moved with his family to Paris. One of the members of the Impressionists. He is known for his oil paintings, as well as sculptures and prints.

In his early years, he worked as an apprentice and painted ceramics, fans, curtains, etc. He studied painting from the academic painter Charles Gabriel Gleyre (1806-1874), and was influenced by Delacroix and Courbet, and had a deep study of Rubens and French 18th-century painting. In terms of creation, it can combine traditional painting methods with impressionist methods, and express the fluttering and clear atmosphere of sunlight and air with bright and transparent colors, with a unique style. His works include "Private Room", "Lunch on a Cruise Ship", "Little Margaux", "Ball in the Pancake Mill" and so on.

Frog Pond

In 1869

Renoir heeded Monet's advice when painting Frog Pond, focusing on the relationship between water and reflection. He painted two paintings with this same composition, trying to show the feeling of light and color with clear small brushstrokes. The water surface is shining, the color is easily reflected, and the visual impression is strong. The painting thus became the "introductory work" of Renoir's Impressionism.

The Ball at the Pancake Mill

Because Renoir was trained in porcelain painting in his early years, this work reflects a cotton wool style similar to porcelain painting, which although it makes the picture feel sketchy, as if it is not yet complete, but it is this technique that can show the effect of mixing light and shadow and the effect of constantly changing sunlight caused by the continuous rotation of the crowd.
