Auguste Rodin (12 November 1840 – 17 November 1917) was a French sculptural artist. His major works include The Thinker, The Bronze Age, The Righteous People of Calais, Balzac, etc.

Rodin was born on 12 November 1840 in the Latin Quarter of Paris, France, to a family of ordinary employees. In 1854, he entered the Portit School of Design and became inextricably linked to engraving. In 1862, he entered the Ticlian Monastery and completed the mascot of the Abbot Aymar. In 1875, he traveled to Italy and carefully studied and inspired the works of Donatello, Michelangelo and others.

Between 1876 and 1877, Rodin completed the sculpture Bronze Age. In 1879, he completed the group sculpture "Call for Taking Up Arms and Fighting". In 1880, Rodin began writing The Gates of Hell. The work was enormous and lasted until the end of Rodin's life in 1917. In 1886, he was presented with a statue of the literary artist Victor Hugo. In 1898, it was completed as a statue of the literary scholar Balzac. In 1916, he donated all his works to the French government. Rodin died on November 17, 1917, at the age of 77.

Rodin's creation had a great influence on the development of modern sculpture in Europe, and he and his two students, Mayor and Buddell, were known as the "three pillars" of European sculpture.
