1/50! Professor Liu Zhuang of Soochow University won the 2021 "Science Exploration Award"

On September 13, the winners of the third "Science Exploration Award" were officially announced, and 50 young scientists were "on the list". In the frontier intersection of the award, Professor Liu Zhuang of the Institute of Functional Nano and Soft Matter of our university was selected as the first scientist in the school to receive this award.

1/50! Professor Liu Zhuang of Soochow University won the 2021 "Science Exploration Award"

The "Science Exploration Award" is a public welfare award jointly initiated by Ma Huateng, Chairman and CEO of Tencent Company and founder of the Tencent Foundation, and 14 well-known scientists including famous physicist Yang Zhenning on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Tencent in 2018. Adhering to the tenet of "facing the future, rewarding potential and encouraging exploration", the "Science Exploration Award" focuses on 9 fields such as mathematical physics, life sciences, astronomy and geoscience, new chemical materials, information electronics, energy and environmental protection, advanced manufacturing, transportation and construction, and frontier intersection, and supports young scientific and technological workers aged 45 and below who work full-time in Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. No more than 50 winners are selected each year, and each winner will receive a total of RMB 3 million in prize money within 5 years, which is freely available.

The influence of the "Science Exploration Award" is increasing, attracting extensive participation from the scientific and technological community and the education community. This year, in the nomination and recommendation stage alone, more than 600 academicians of the two academies and the presidents of more than 20 famous universities participated, and 20 winners of international awards such as nobel prizes, Turing awards, and fields medals participated in the nomination and recommendation, and the international influence of the awards continued to increase.

1/50! Professor Liu Zhuang of Soochow University won the 2021 "Science Exploration Award"

Liu Zhuang, male, born in August 1982, received a bachelor's degree from Peking University and a doctorate from Stanford University, and joined the Institute of Functional Nano and Soft Matter of Soochow University in 2009. His team focuses on the research of biomedical materials, and has explored a variety of innovative treatment strategies for major diseases such as tumors based on biomaterial technology; published more than 300 academic papers with a total of more than 60,000 citations; funded by the National Outstanding Youth Fund, selected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the American Academy of Medicine and Biological Engineering; won the first prize of Science and Technology of Jiangsu Province, the Biomaterials Science Lectureship, the China Youth Science And Technology Award and other academic honors. Since 2015, he has been selected as the "Global Highly Cited Scientist" published by Clarivate, the deputy editor of Biomaterials, the flagship journal in the field of biomaterials, and the editorial board of more than ten international mainstream journals.

Professor Liu Zhuang has cultivated a number of outstanding young talents in soochow University for 12 years, and 17 of his students have served as professors or associate professors in various universities, of which 4 have been selected for the national young talent project and 3 have been selected as global highly cited scientists in 2020.

While conducting forward-looking research, Professor Liu Zhuang is also accelerating the application and transformation of his original scientific research results, and is currently carrying out the industrialization research and development of a number of new drug projects. He led the team to develop a transformative innovation strategy for tumor treatment - anti-tumor drug preparations that induce endogenous tumor vaccines in vitro, hoping to solve the pain points and difficulties of tumor treatment and achieve more accurate and effective tumor immunotherapy.
