Pirates manager: Quarterback Winston's poor performance is mostly due to technical problems

Bruce Arians continues to try to revive quarterback Jameis Winston's career.

After becoming the new coach of the Tampa Bay Pirates, Arians immediately promised to retain Winston and discouraged any team from forfeiting the former debut quarterback.

Now, Arians has begun to help winston with the difficult part of his plan: to find and solve the problem. He and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich and quarterback coach Clyde Christensen both believe that the main reason for Winston's poor performance is his poor skills.

"I studied a lot of his passes," Arians said. Kleit watched every pass he's made since his rookie season, and so did Byron. It seems that you just pay attention to the opponent's security guard for too long and your own footsteps are chaotic. Most of the reason is due to skill issues. ”

Winston has been plagued by errors, with 58 passes intercepted in 56 games of his career and 18 missing goals that resulted in a loss of ball. Arians's view is noteworthy because Winston usually stares at passing targets for too long and too many times tries to finish passes in poor posture, and his habit of constantly retreating backwards to dodge when facing pressure in the quarterback protection net often gets him into trouble.

Arians believes the Pirates coaching staff can help Winston get out of his problems. This can reduce the pressure on Winston not only by helping winston improve his skills, but also by strengthening the team's rushing offense and defense.

Winston has improved little since his rookie season, and it's worth noting that his rookie season was also the only time in his career that he paired up with a running back who sprinted over a thousand yards. Arians and his colleagues needed to help Winston turn the tide, and that had to start with improving his skills.
