【Boshan Place Name Story】No. 11 The legend of Lianpo and Wufuyu

Regarding the origin of the name of the village "Wufuyu", there is a legend widely circulated among the local people that "Lianpo died in battle in Wufuyu".

【Boshan Place Name Story】No. 11 The legend of Lianpo and Wufuyu

According to legend, in the late Warring States period, the State of Qin sent troops to attack the State of Zhao, and although the general Lian Po of the State of Zhao was over 70 years old, he still had a meal and fought rice and ten pounds of meat, and was ordered by the monarch to lead troops to meet the enemy. In the back of the battle, Zhao Guoguo was weak and outnumbered, and although Lian Po was brave and fierce, he was unable to fight with two hands with one punch, so he retreated to the Yueyang Mountain area in the territory of the Qi State while fighting, intending to make a strategic shift among the peaks of the Lushan Mountains.

When he came to Zihe Beach, he met an old man who was farming, and Lian Po asked, "What is this place?" Answered, "Bai Jiadi!" This was in harmony with the "land of defeat", and Lian Po was displeased with himself and continued to lead his troops to the south. After crossing the Zihe Beach, he met an old farmer, and Lian Po asked, "What is this place?" Answer: "Shijiayan!" This was also a homonym for "lost armor", and Lian Po was even more displeased, so he continued to lead his troops south to today's North Silkworm Village (a natural village in present-day Guoxi Village), intending to break through the siege east through Guo Baling.

Before coming to the village, I happened to meet an old woman who was pounding rice, so she asked, "What is this place?" Answer: "Northern silkworm farm!" The "tragic scene" and the fact that it came from the woman's mouth was a bad omen, so Lian Po waved his troops to the territory of today's Wufuyu. When he passed "Lingdong" and came to the "Little East Cliff" in Lingxi (Lingdong, Lingxi, and Xiaodong Cliff, all three natural villages in Wufuyu Village), Lian Po saw that troops could be used here, and he had the idea of occupying the commanding heights and fighting a decisive battle with the Qin army.

At this time, a white-bearded old man suddenly came, and Lian Po walked up to him and pointed to the southern mountain and asked, "What kind of mountain is this?" What is that mountain to the west called? The old man said, "This mountain is called Five Axe Mountain, and that mountain is called Five Axe Mountain." When Lian Po heard that this place name had violated the name of a general, it was very unlucky, and he sighed to himself: "Yu is a five-axe Yu, and the mountain is a five-axe mountain, how can I be able to compete with five axes with this sickle (Lian)!" So he continued to wave his troops south, and came to today's Majiazhuang, in front of which is a crossroads, there are two mountains to go, the east one is called Dead Old Lady Yu, and the west one is called Walnut Yu.

At this time, it was the white-bearded old man who came to meet him, and Lian Po went forward, who knew that Lian Po was superstitious to ask for directions to the west, and the second was obsessed with realizing his breakthrough to the east and coming to Lushan to regroup, so he did not ask Walnut Yu (dialect "escaping alive") in the west, but asked the dead old woman Yu in the east. Lian Po couldn't help but sigh to Tianchang: "Dead old po, dead old po, this is the will of heaven, heaven absolutes me!" "Legend has it that this white-bearded old man, who was under Taibai Jinxing in the sky, originally wanted to come here to guide Lian Po to "escape" from the encirclement from Walnut Yu, as long as he asked Walnut Yu, he could escape. But even so, even if you can ask about the "Zhuantou Mountain" (called Niwanding or Longwan Peak in the people) in the west, as long as Lianpo can turn back to the north, he can still escape the "Five Axe Yu". I saw Taibai Jinxing tearfully pointing his finger to the west and reminding: "Why don't the general go and occupy the top of that mountain!" Lianpo asked, "What is the name of that mountain?" The old man deliberately replied loudly: "This is the turning head mountain!" "The intention is to let Lian Po quickly turn around and walk out of Wu Axe Yu. Who knows that Lian Po is ironclad that he was born a native of Zhao Guo, and death is Zhao Guo's ghost's heart to serve the country and sacrifice his life, and it is impossible to let me "turn back", since he came to "Five Axe Yu", and there is "dead wife (po) Yu", this is when and where I should sacrifice my life for the country.

Thinking of this, Lian Po felt that he could no longer make meritorious contributions to the country's killing of the enemy, and he did not feel that the old man was in tears, so he raised his head to face the direction of Zhao Guo, and in the moment when the guards were unprepared, he drew his sword and killed himself. After Lianpo's death, the guards were also loyal, and each of them killed themselves next to Lianpo's body, in order not to let the Qin army get Lianpo's body, his soldiers quickly buried Lianpo in tears in the place where Lianpo killed himself, and only one pocket of soil per person piled up a very large grave. This mound (which is actually a mound of earth) has been well preserved until the Cultural Revolution in the last century, and legend has it that in the dead of night or during thunderstorms, the sound of swords clashing and trumpets can be heard in the distance.

Because Lianpo was a loyal general, and after his death, he turned into a god to protect the people, and people thought that this was a "Five Axe" who committed Lianpo's scorn, and I don't know what year or month, so he changed the village name "Wuaxe Yu" to "Wufuyu", and also changed the "Five Axe Mountain" in the west to "Wufu Mountain".

In the 27th year of the Republic of China (1938), the villagers of Wufuyu spontaneously raised funds and specially erected a stone stele in front of this "ancient ridge", with the inscription "The Tomb of General Zhao Shanglianpo".
