What China's green development means for the world

author:China Youth Network

Green is a symbol of life and the background color of nature. Green development is development that conforms to nature, promotes harmonious coexistence between man and nature, is development that achieves maximum economic and social benefits at the least cost of resources and environment, and is high-quality and sustainable development.

In the decade of the new era, China has adhered to the concept that green waters and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains, unswervingly taken the road of ecological priority and green development, promoted the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and built a modernization in which man and nature live in harmony, creating an ecological miracle and green development miracle that attracted worldwide attention. "China Green" is not only a bright background color for beautiful China, but also adds a bright color to global sustainable development.

Take the modern road of harmonious coexistence between man and nature

During the National Two Sessions, when General Secretary Xi Jinping participated in the review of the Jiangsu delegation, he specifically asked how the water quality of Taihu Lake was and whether there was cyanobacteria. The CPPCC National Committee has set up a new environmental resources sector this year, which is a major adjustment of the CPPCC sector in the past 30 years. The profound meaning behind these hot spots of the two sessions has attracted the attention of all parties.

In the past ten years, "green water and green mountains are gold and silver mountains" has become the consensus and action of the whole Chinese society, and ecological environmental protection has undergone historic, turning and overall changes. Since 2012, China has supported an average annual economic growth rate of 6.6% with an average annual growth rate of 3%.

Over the past decade, Saeed Shah, a researcher at the Pakistan Institute for Policy Studies, has traveled frequently to China, and the remarkable improvement in air quality across China has given him an intuition of China's commitment to green development. In his view, green development is a highlight and distinctive feature of China's modernization.

"The thesis that 'green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains' and the resulting concept of ecological civilization truly grasp the essence of environmental protection and are essential for the sustainable development of mankind in the future." Kenyan international issues scholar Cavince Adehir said.

China has taken the lead in achieving "zero growth" in land degradation in the world, and has played a positive role in achieving the 2030 land degradation zero growth goal. Since 2000, China has been the main force of global "greening". NASA satellite data shows that between 2000 and 2017, about a quarter of the world's new green area came from China.

"China is going to the world with a green look, and China's green development concept is worth learning." Abdelrahman Dahir, Director of Communication Affairs at the Saudi National Centre for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification, said, "We have benefited greatly from working with the Chinese government for many years, which will greatly help us in achieving our sustainable development goals. ”

Provide green momentum for high-quality development

Promoting green and low-carbon economic and social development is a key link to achieve high-quality development. China is working together to promote carbon reduction, pollution reduction, green expansion and growth, reduce the high-carbon economy and "black economy", and increase the low-carbon economy, green economy and beautiful economy.

In recent years, the output value of China's energy conservation and environmental protection industry has increased by more than 10% per year, and the installed capacity of hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power generation ranks first in the world. The production scale of clean energy equipment ranks first in the world, and polysilicon, silicon wafers, cells and modules account for more than 70% of global production; The production and sales of new energy vehicles have ranked first in the world for 8 consecutive years, and the number of charging piles built in highway service areas ranks first in the world...

Lewis Ndishu, senior analyst at the African Policy Institute, a Kenyan think tank, believes that with the help of technology and scale advantages, China has explored an efficient and clean development path, played a key role in the decarbonization of the global energy system, set a global benchmark, and provided experience for the vast number of developing countries to learn from.

The tightening of resource constraints and the deterioration of the ecological environment are common problems faced by developing countries in the process of industrialization and urbanization. "The traditional way of development that relies on high energy consumption and high pollution should be a thing of the past." Mushashid Hussain, chairman of the Senate Defence Committee of Pakistan, said.

When Hussein visited the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project Port Qassim coal-fired power station, he was full of praise for the world-leading technology provided by China. "The smoke from other local factories is black, while here it is white water vapor. We saw this application in Pakistan, and it was remarkable. ”

Jordan lacks energy resources and has long relied on imports, so in recent years it has vigorously advocated the development of clean energy. Three Gorges International's wind and photovoltaic projects in Jordan are expected to provide 440 million kWh of green electricity to Jordan every year, making it one of the largest clean energy projects in the country.

"China is sharing its professional experience with other countries, including Arab countries." Mohammed Abu Atiyeh, country manager of the Three Gorges International Jordan New Energy Project, who has served in the Jordanian Royal Palace and the Jordanian Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, said.

The transportation industry has large energy consumption, pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions, which is an area that needs to be focused on to achieve green development. At the G20 Bali Summit held in November last year, 300 Wuling New Energy Vehicles served delegates as official designated vehicles.

"Wuling introduced new energy vehicles to Indonesia and cultivated a local supporting system in Indonesia that runs through the long industrial chain of automobile production, which takes green environmental protection as the core." Arif Pramadana, deputy general manager of SAIC-GM-Wuling Indonesia Automobile Co., Ltd., said, "China's investment and technology can support Indonesia's better and faster development of new energy industry. ”

Promote the construction of a community of human and natural life

There is only one earth for mankind, and it is the common responsibility of all countries to protect the ecological environment and promote sustainable development.

China has pledged to strive to peak carbon emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. China actively participates in global environmental and climate governance, promotes the building of a community of human and natural life, and contributes Chinese wisdom and strength to building a prosperous, clean and beautiful world.

"China is promoting a better, greener and cleaner ecological environment for the future of mankind." Mushahid Hussein said.

Since 2016, China has launched 10 low-carbon demonstration zones, 100 climate change mitigation and adaptation projects, 1,000 climate change training quota cooperation projects in developing countries, and implemented more than 200 foreign aid projects to address climate change.

The Saudi Al Shubah 2.6 GW photovoltaic power station undertaken by Chinese enterprises is currently the largest photovoltaic power plant under construction in the Middle East and an important part of Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030" new energy plan. The project will provide about 3,000 local jobs, and after completion, it is expected that the total power generation capacity will be about 282.2 billion kilowatt-hours in 35 years, which translates into nearly 245 million tons of carbon dioxide emission reduction.

Over the past decade, China has worked with all parties to improve the Belt and Road green development cooperation mechanism, jointly launched the Belt and Road Green Development Partnership Initiative with 31 co-construction countries, and trained 3,000 green development talents for more than 120 BRI countries through the implementation of the Green Silk Road Envoy Program.

China has also implemented global development initiatives and promoted the establishment of a global clean energy partnership; Actively participate in cooperation on energy transition and energy efficiency improvement under the frameworks of the G20, BRICS, Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and APEC.

At a time when global ecological and environmental problems are prominent and sustainable development is facing challenges, China's promotion of green development has written a win-win chapter with other countries. As Shah said: "Environmental improvement is not only good for China, but also for the whole world, reflecting China's responsibility as a world power." ”
