Film actress Gu Yan, formerly known as Gu Yan, was born in the 1960s in An artistic family in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Gu Yan's father, Gu Tiangao, was the head of the Zhejiang Provincial Repertory Theatre and the head of the Arts Department of the Provincial Department of Culture. Her mother, Zhou Xianzhen, is also an actress, who is well known to the audience for playing Jia Baoyu's mother, Madame Wang, in the 87 version of the TV series "Dream of the Red Chamber". In 1986, Gu Yan first entered the film world and played the heroine in her debut film "Silent Iceberg". For this role, she won the Best Actress Award of "Little Hundred Flowers" of Bayi Film Studio.
