Peruvian President Boluarte declared a state of emergency in 400 municipalities affected by Cyclone Yaku on March 12. At present, various departments of the Peruvian government are taking joint action to provide support to the affected population.

The Minister of Education, Oscar Becerra, informed that, as a preventive measure, about 3.75 million children and adolescents throughout the country will suspend classes for a week from March 13, representing 53.5% of the number of people in school in the country.

The country's weather forecast shows that Lima, the capital of Peru, will experience heavy rain on the 14th. The mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga, said that more than 1 million residents of Lima will suffer heavy rainfall in the coming days.

Between September 2022 and March 12, 2023, rains in the country have killed 59 people, injured 57, left eight missing and affected tens of thousands of people, according to Peru's National Civil Protection.
