The stones and trees standing at the ruins of Carthage tell the story of thousands of years of history - Travels in Tunisia (1)

One of Tunisia's most famous attractions: the ruins of Carthage, located on the Mediterranean Sea. The city was founded by the Phoenicians in 814 BC, decades before the city of Rome. After Carthage became strong, it fought with the two powers of Rome, and three wars broke out, known as the Punic War!

The First Punic War (264–241 BC) was mainly a naval battle in the Mediterranean. Fighting began in Sicily, followed by a Roman attack on Carthage, which was defeated.

In the Second Punic War (218–201 BC), the Carthaginian general Hannibal entered Spain from Tunisia and crossed the Alps into Italy, defeating the Roman army several times, but was finally defeated by the Roman general Scipio.

The Third Punic War (149–146 BC), a Roman war of aggression against the weak. Rome took the initiative to attack and besieged the city of Carthage for a long time, but Carthage was not willing to be attacked, so it rose up to fight. Unfortunately, in the end, Carthage was defeated and the city was slaughtered, and the territory became a Roman province, the province of Afrikaans.

After Rome conquered Carthage, it destroyed the city and sprinkled the land with salt to prevent people from moving here again, which shows how much the Romans hated the Carthaginians. But it was so good for survival that later, after the Romans calmed down, they began to build it again. In 122 BC, Rome rebuilt the city on the old site, built large baths, gladiatorial arenas, villa complexes, etc., and developed it into the second largest city in the country after Rome.

In 698 AD, it was completely destroyed by Arab armies. To this day, all that people see is the ruins of broken walls and the sadness of history!
