Apple's iPhone 15 Pro/Max will feature solid-state volume and a power button

IT House January 12 news, Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingxi today reiterated that Apple's iPhone 15 Pro series models will be equipped with solid-state volume and power button, he added that if this change is well received, other high-end devices may follow suit in the future. Presumably, this will include the iPad Pro and perhaps the Apple Watch Ultra.

Kuo Mingxi previously said that the iPhone 15 Pro model will be equipped with two additional Taptic Engines, which provide haptic feedback when the button is pressed, but the button does not actually move. This is similar to the solid-state Home button introduced on the iPhone 7 and the Force Touch trackpad on the MacBook.

In a series of tweets today, Kuo noted that Cirrus Logic as the control IC chip supplier for the iPhone's Taptic Engine will benefit from this change.

Kuo said that due to this design change, the number of Taptic Engines used per iPhone will increase from the current 1 to 3. Therefore, the existing Taptic Engine suppliers Luxshare Precision (No. 1 Supplier) and AAC Technologies (No. 2 Supplier) will be significant beneficiaries. It is expected that high-end Android phones will also follow Apple's design to create new selling points, which is a structural benefit for the mobile phone vibration module industry.

IT House understands that the solid-state buttons on the iPhone provide better water resistance, and previously moving parts would wear or break over time. The standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are expected to still have traditional physical buttons.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 15 series in September, as usual.
