"Turning the Mountain" – we all have a reason to run away

"Turning The Mountain" is the only novel that I want to see after watching the movie, the movie has been brushed twice, and every time I watch it, I will have a different feeling.

"Turning the Mountain" – we all have a reason to run away

The book describes a 24-year-old young man who joined the Cloud Gate Wanderer Program in the chilly October and cycled alone from Lijiang to Lhasa during the snow season. After two months of wandering, he crossed 9 peaks with an average altitude of 5,000 meters.

Riding all the way is not about proving one's bravery or greatness, but about the ego "oscillating between belief and doubt", but ultimately deciding to go on. Because even if he fails, he "should see how he obeys in the face of failure." The author Xie Wanglin has selected the most impressive experiences on the ride and written 17 articles, telling this arduous adventure in chronological order. There are thrills, despair, emotions, and fears during the three-month journey, and through vivid words, the author's feelings jump out of the paper. It is not only a journey of the body, but also a journey of the mind; it may not be the most thrilling and bizarre travelogue, but it is the most passionate record; it is not only a book about travel, but a book about growth.

Liang Wendao said that every few years, there is always a book that arouses the desire of a generation to run away and wander. "Turning the Mountain" is not a switch that arouses my desire to run away, but a determination to find myself. May not be able to stir up a generation, but dissecting the self in the move is deep enough to be naked. Don't know how many people can resonate?

Live in the city for a long time, live a regular life, away from "wandering". Occasionally, the inner impulse is only the willfulness of the thought, and it will eventually return to reality. The author's "turning the mountain" differs from the pilgrimage of believers and does not seem to have any "practical significance". Embarking on a high plateau full of unknowns alone is more like completing an agreement with the self than taking risks.

Reading "Turning The Mountain", wandering in the text, it seems to be with the author across thousands of mountains and rivers. Along the way, you are troubled, always wondering about the purpose of the trip. When you reach the mouth of the holy mountain, in front of the huge mountain, you kneel side by side, and suddenly you wake up! Stretch out your arms to face the wind and snow, the sleeves are agitated to hunt, and you shout with all your strength...

Imagination ultimately comes down to romance, and in the real journey he is constantly "reminded" that this is still a real world. It will not be because of the "holy land" that all kinds of indifference and ruthlessness in the human world will become less. Along the way, there are people who "see death and can't be saved", and there are also malicious intentions caused by estrangement. But in the most desperate times, there are also warmth and unexpected surprises. The doctor did not charge for it, offered hada, gave blessings, and strange passers-by handed rice dumplings and free accommodation. When he broke the hotel's hot water bottle due to inadvertent transgression, he hesitated and suffered in his heart, and finally did not "confess" to the store. When you are caught up, what you wait for is not the expected "blackmail". After re-thinking about this series of events, I can't help but wonder what kind of person I really am? When he was poisoned by food, he fell under the bed, vomited up and down, and could not make a sound, and asked himself in a trance: What is the purpose of coming here?

At the mouth of the Sedgera, against the wind and snow, his mind was dizzy, and he was just pushing hard, exhausted. Multiple cars drove past inviting him to hitchhike, and he just shook his head and made an OK gesture. Perhaps his mind could no longer distinguish what was safe and what was dangerous, but there was only a thought of going forward. The five-colored prayer flags at the top of the mountain flutter in the wind, and suddenly seem to be combined with the mountains and integrated into one.

The most memorable thing for me was that he met three female pilgrims on the road, prostrating their heads. He compared himself to 24 years old, and the Tibetan girl also compared it to 19 years old. She has been following her mother and aunt on a pilgrimage away from home for more than a year, and it is estimated that it will take 2 or 3 months to kowtow to Lhasa. He just wanted to blurt out that he had 10 days to ride to Lhasa, and finally swallowed hard. He hesitated, what kind of promise of life could they get along the way? When they learned about him, they revealed an unspeakable sense of pity. They cut a piece of bacon for him, and the three of them saved less than half of his bacon——— even though their lives were extremely miserable... As I read this passage, I was in a daze and my mind was cluttered. Although I still can't understand the "pilgrimage" like them, I am undoubtedly deeply moved by them, not pity, not admiration, but inexplicable joy.

Reading this work is very different from reading it in the past. The words are a bit clumsy, but they contain a kind of vitality of life, a kind of "heat", a kind of temperament that deeply attracts you. You know that this is a certain spirituality that is moving away from you as the years go by, and this detachment is unstoppable, but you are still trying to make a little more of a stay.

In fact, life is also a wandering. In this way, the author looks for faith and courage that has been lost. The author's experience can't help but remind me of "Bicycle Around the Island Diary", which also bid farewell to something by riding a bicycle, or youth, or love. Everyone has their own way of venting their emotions, but they all want to find themselves and re-understand themselves. Perhaps, I have always felt that I can't go on, and some things can't be achieved, and I just choose to give up because I am worried that I can't do it. Execution is a very special thing, not a determination, a plan, you can go. Many times, people can't be so rational, and they can't be completely emotional, and they can't do something in order to achieve a certain ideal. Before going on the road, the road was always there, maybe hard, maybe flat, only by stepping on it did you know the hardships of the road, rubbing shoulders with death, accompanying loneliness, fighting disease, talking with passers-by, walking with rain and snow, all of which were recorded, full of bitterness and harvest. Turning the mountain is to gain peace of mind through the tempering of the flesh.
