Yellow-headed owl (scientific name: Otus spilocephalus) is a small bird with a body length of 18–21 cm. The tea yellow-brown horned owl. The eyes are yellow , the mouth is creamy , characterized by no obvious longitudinal or transverse markings , and only a row of large triangular white spots on the shoulders. Its natural habitats are montane evergreen broad-leaved forests and mixed forests below 2000 m, and sometimes to the foot of the mountain.

China is found in Fujian, Taiwan, Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi and Yunnan. It is found in the Himalayas, northeastern Indian subcontinent, southern China, Southeast Asia, Sumatra and North Borneo.

Resident birds. Nocturnal, mainly at night and dusk, during the day mostly hides in dark foliage or caves. Multiple solo or paired activities. It feeds mainly on rodents, lizards, large insects and insect larvae. The chime is a continuously rising two-syllable whistle, like a 'boo, boo-boo, boo-boo

The breeding season is from April to June. Nests usually take place in natural tree holes or abandoned woodpecker holes. Eggs are usually laid in 3-4 clutches, sometimes as many as 5 and as few as 2. The size of the eggs is 31-34 mm× 27-29 mm, with an average of 32 mm × 28 mm.
