Red Horned Owl (scientific name: otus scops): About 20 cm in total length. The upperparts are greyish brown (brownish maroon) with fine black-brown insect beetle-like lines. The face plate is grayish brown with thin black stripes, the collar is light brown, the ear feathers are brown at the base, and the top to the back and wing cover feathers are mixed with brownish-white spots. Most of the feathers are black brown , the tail feathers are grayish brown , and the undertail coverts are white. Most of the underparts are reddish brown to greyish brown , with dark brown slender transverse spots and dark brown plumage. The mouth is dark green, and the apex is nearly yellow. The claws are greyish brown.

The species has a wide distribution range, is not close to the fragile endangered threshold standard for the survival of the species (distribution area or fluctuation range is less than 20,000 square kilometers, habitat quality, population size, distribution area fragmentation), the population trend is stable, so it is evaluated as a species without survival crisis.
The breeding season is from May to August. Nests are found in tree holes or rock crevices and artificial nest boxes. The nest is made up of dead grass and dead leaves, with fresh moss and a few feathers. Each clutch lays 3-6 eggs, the eggs are oval, white, smooth and spotless, the average size is 31 mm× 27 mm, and weighs 12 g. Females incubate their eggs for a period of 24-25 days. Chicks are late-growing.
