When it comes to break dancing, many people will think of Sun Honglei, the "King of Northeast Dance".

This dance genre, which originated on the streets of the United States, was once popular in China. In the 1980s, the movie "Break Dance" was released in China, and "Sun Honglei" could be seen everywhere in the streets.

The boy who breaks the dance is called "B-boy", the girl is called "B-girl", and the 16-year-old girl Liu Qingyi is one of the B-girls.

She began to break dance at the age of 9, jumped all the way from the amateur club to the provincial team, and then jumped to the national training team, jumped on the podium of the world championship, and reached a new height of Chinese breakdancing.

On July 11, Liu Qingyi passed the world games and finally won the fourth place.

In the early morning of August 7, Beijing time, Liu Qingyi once again won the women's championship of the 1vs1 world-renowned event "Outbreak Competition". Both for her and for Chinese breakdancing, this is a new breakthrough.

A few days ago, Sino-Singapore Sports called Liu Qingyi, who was accompanying the national training team to train outside the competition. In a conversation with reporters, she said that in the future, she dreams of standing on the stage of the Olympic Games and letting the world see Chinese girls who can dance.

From hobbies to professionals

On 7 December 2020, the IOC agreed to make break dancing an official sport for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. That day, Liu Qingyi's circle of friends was swept away by this message.

This means that street dance, which was once considered "not in the flow", has ascended to the "Hall of Elegance", and dancers like Liu Qingyi have also been given the opportunity to turn their hobbies into careers.

At the age of 9, Liu Qingyi saw a street dance performance in his hometown in Henan for the first time. Cool movements and dynamic music formed a fatal attraction for her. At that time, Liu Qingyi had only one thought in his mind: "I also want to learn." ”

She was still in elementary school at the time, and her academic performance was at the top of her class. After school, her parents sent her to learn taekwondo. But the routine practice of taekwondo made Liu Qingyi feel bored and boring, and the unfettered sense of freedom of break dancing, like the brilliant fireworks blooming in the night, made her crazy fascinated.

Before the Shaanxi National Games, Liu Qingyi, who was already an "old driver" of break dancing, received the attention of the provincial team. In the end, she represented Henan team in the women's break dance competition and won the gold medal. Liu Qingyi was thus selected for the national training team and began preparations for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Paris Olympic Games.

The already concluded World Games is the first race to earn Olympic points in Paris. Although he did not stand on the podium in the end, Liu Qingyi felt that he had gained a lot by going abroad: "The level of foreign (break dance) is much higher than that of China, and I have also gained a lot of experience with the world's most powerful players." ”

The only girl in the club

In the eyes of many people, many of the supporting and handstanding movements of breakdancing test the dancer's skill and athleticism. This distinctive dance is also more suitable for boys to practice.

Compared to the number of B-boys, B-girls in the country seem to be more rare. Beijing Sport University's first breakdancing class was open to national enrollment, but none of the 11 students recruited were girls.

This loneliness of lack of same-sex partners has also been accompanied by Liu Qingyi's growth. When she first started breaking dance, she was the only girl in the club. Many children and parents are intimidated by the "dangerous attributes" that come with this dance, but Liu Qingyi is a girl who likes to challenge: "I am more extroverted, and when I encounter something I like, I want to do it well." ”

It is not easy for the coach to watch a little girl learn to dance, and he is also extra gentle with this "single seedling". After a summer of dancing, the coach discovered Liu Qingyi's talent and encouraged her to keep jumping.

Some of the tricks in breakdancing are not friendly to girls. In 7 years, Liu Qingyi has not remembered how many times he has been injured. But she still remembers that the broken arm in 2018 almost ruined her dance career.

It was a very ordinary training session, and Liu Qingyi felt that his arm could not be strengthened. After class, she went to the hospital, and the doctor told her to go home and rest for a day or two. But a week later, her arm was getting worse and worse, and it wasn't until she went to the city hospital that she learned that her arm had broken.

Liu Qingyi, who has a strong personality, rarely cries his nose. But that day, she burst into tears: "I'm afraid I won't be able to dance again." During the hospitalization for surgery, her mother has been with her, watching her daughter suffer, she has been advising Liu Qingyi: "Or don't jump." ”

But Liu Qingyi, who has insisted on it for 3 years, refuses to give up easily. After removing the plaster cast from her arm and removing the nails, she began training again.

Because of this injury, many of the actions that had been mastered before became unfamiliar to Liu Qingyi. She had to start from scratch: "It took about two or three months to get back to the level before." ”

Let the world see China's "B-girl."

In Liu Qingyi's view, dance is an expression of his own personality. People with different personalities like different types of dance.

Breakdancing was born in the 1970s. At first, it was a representative of "rebellion" and "new wave". Later, with the development of the times, the art form of asserting individuality and expressing oneself in break dance was retained, and it also became one of the characteristics of this dance.

The casual freedom in dance coincides with Liu Qingyi's personality, which has become the reason why she fell in love with breakdancing. Dancing for so long, Liu Qingyi feels that there is a lot of fun in life, and it also brings her more confidence: "Dancing to the end is to show what you think is good, to do your own style to the extreme, and then get the recognition of others." I think that's what dance is all about. ”

This time out of the foreign training, many foreign players are also curious about China's break dancers. When they see Liu Qingyi, who is not very old, but has excellent skills, they will also be surprised and sigh: "Very few girls can jump like this." ”

"I have few dancers in this genre, not many people have seen them, and they also feel more novel. I also hope that they will deepen their impression of Chinese breakdancing and raise our visibility. Liu Qingyi said.

Due to the late start of break dancing in China and the relatively small number of people, there is also a certain gap between Chinese players and the world's top masters. However, with the east wind of break dancing into Austria, the domestic B-boy and B-girl groups continue to expand. In the future, we have reason to believe that more and more Chinese dancers will appear in the future World Series. (Reporter Xing Rui)
