I am Wei Qun (@Wei Qun), a former member of the men's national football team. From the age of 9 to represent Zigong City, participating in competitions in Sichuan Province, to playing the World Cup for China at the age of 26, and then to becoming a coach after retiring at the age of 32, he played football for half a lifetime.
The fans gave me a nickname, "Wei Daxia", and many people have asked me why I call it so? I really don't know when I called it, why I was called that, I don't know. But this title can indeed encompass my character and experience in the first half of my life.

My parents originally worked in the First Container Factory in Beijing, and in order to support the construction of the third line, my parents went to Zigong, Sichuan province in 1963. After I was born in 1971, I lived with my grandparents in Beijing until I was 7 years old. I remembered that I was already in the first grade in Beijing, and it was about half a semester before my parents took me to Zigong and took me with me.
In fact, I had an older brother in front of me, but my parents were young at that time and would not take children, and my brother died prematurely, so my parents also attached more importance to me from an early age, even if they worked in other provinces, they still decided to take care of me themselves. My father drove a big truck in a machine tool factory, and my mother was a keeper of spare parts in the workshop.
When I was a child, I grew up in Caishikou, Xuanwu District, Beijing, where hutongs were large and small, and after I went to Zigong, I felt that this city was simply incomparable with Beijing, and Beijing was of course too big.

Changed the living environment, for me there are many places that are not adaptable. The first is the language, when I first went to Zigong, I couldn't understand the local dialect, for me like a foreign language, when I went to school in Beijing, the teachers and classmates spoke Mandarin, I thought that the people of the whole country all spoke Mandarin, I didn't expect it to be, the accent was so different.
But fortunately, I just went to the children's school, and the factory where my parents work has its own hospital, school, and dormitory area, and the external contact is not particularly much. It wasn't until I arrived at the chengdu sports brigade in 1983 that I began to contact and learn Sichuan dialect. I don't speak with a Zigong accent now, but with a pure Chengdu accent.
The other is diet. Growing up with my grandparents, it was basically impossible to get something with chili peppers, but when it came to Zigong, it was completely different. Of course, growing up a little slowly learned, because the local weather is humid, so you have to eat a little spicy dehumidification. At home, my mother's cooking is still far to the north, and after the third grade, I go to sports school, and I have to eat some spicy things in sports school.
I have admired my father since I was a child, and when I was a child, I listened to my grandfather, who still has a legendary past. His father also had great strength, and when he was young, he liked wrestling, and in order to worship the two wrestlers in Beijing, Zhen Wu and Zhen Liu, he spent a lot of effort, kneeling in front of the master's house, and did not eat or drink for several days. Later I asked him, I said, did you take it? He said he accepted it.
He fell over the overpass at that time, and there was a cattle street opposite the Beijing Caishikou, which was full of Muslims, and many older generations should know my father, and there was a wrestling Wei Laoba in caishikou, who was 84 years old this year.
The image of my father in my heart since I was a child is a very strict person, not only because I am afraid of my father, but I think many people in the factory are afraid of him. I listened to my mother, who was driving a shuttle bus to take the workers in the dormitory to work in the factory, every day. One day, when he was driving, he smelled smoke on the car, he asked who smoked the cigarette, no one answered him, everyone was afraid of him, and as a result, his father directly pulled out the car keys, got out of the car and went home, and as a result, all the people in the car were late. That's his character.
He was also very strict with my education, but he rarely did it, I was afraid as soon as he stared at me, and he was also very disciplined in life. At this age, looking back, I am very grateful to my father, whether I am in the football industry or my behavior, it is inseparable from his influence.

As soon as the school holidays, my father would take me to run a long distance, at that time there was no highway, and when I went out, the sports car was ten days and a half months. I observed that my father was always at the end of the convoy in the factory, and he was worried that some apprentice or master's car would break down on the road, and he could help fix it. Everyone in the factory knows that the father always keeps the hardest and most tiring work for himself, and is a big brother role.
In 1984, 1985 and 1986, my father was named a model worker in Sichuan Province for three consecutive years. Only two people in Quanzigong were rated, one of them was my father, so I was very proud when I was a child, and when I wrote an essay in school, if the teacher took "My Father" as the title, I was very happy.
Running long distances with my father was also the window into the outside world when I first got to know him. He dragged me to Daliangshan and Xichang, and I saw that some people wrapped in a robe without clothes, with a cloth wrapped around their heads and a bun on it, and later I learned that it was a kind of decoration of the Yi people, and these observations made me knowledgeable again. When my father came home from a business trip, he always brought back some sugar cane, oranges, or agricultural products bought directly from the countryside halfway, which was still very rare at that time, and I was particularly proud of it.
Mother was a typical northern woman, very virtuous and financially frugal. After school or vacation, I go to my parents' factory to play, I usually do not go to my mother to eat, she is casually buying two dishes in the canteen to deal with, follow the father can eat very well, a few masters driving a few small stir-fry together. The conditions at that time were like this, but compared with most of the families of the same era, the conditions of our family were good. After all, my father was the captain of the team, and there were often subsidies for running long distances.
My father was an old fan who began to play football when he was in Beijing, and often went to Tianlongtan and went to the workers' stadium to watch the ball. Whether it was the older generation in Beijing, including those who later played football in Beijing and became a little famous, my father could call it by name. But when he was young, the conditions were not good, he did not take the professional path, so he let me be exposed to football from a young age, and wanted him to finish what he did not finish on me.
My father was a football coach in the factory, and the football activities in the factory were carried out very well, and it was also the top two in Zigong City. So since I was a child, I have thought that I must play well and participate in the competition on behalf of our factory, which is a very honorable thing in my heart. My father was my enlightenment coach, when I was a child, I took a ball and joked with me, after I fell, my father fell to the side in order not to press on me, broke the Achilles tendon of the leg, and also had surgery, I was very scared.
So I grew up knowing that playing football hurts and it hurts easily, but I never shy away from that question and still like it as always because the sport is really manly and very manly. There is a table tennis table in the school, and after class, everyone will go to play table tennis together; I have also practiced athletics and represented the school in district and city competitions, but I have a vague feeling that playing football is different from other sports.

In 1981, I was in the third grade of primary school, and every day after school, I had to go to Zigong Sports School to train. From 4 p.m. to 7 o'clock in the dark. At first, I must have felt very bitter, and when I got home, I had to eat quickly, and there was still a lot of homework waiting for me. In our dormitory, my peers finished their homework after school and could play for a while after dinner, but I didn't have the time or entertainment.
My father also went to communicate with my class teacher because of the homework, whether he could try to let Wei Qun complete the homework between classes or other spare time, and did not affect his afternoon sports school training. He definitely wanted me to be an athlete and go the professional sports route. My mother felt sorry for me, but I was persuaded by my father.
My level was outstanding among my peers, and my desire to represent the factory in the competition was quickly crossed. When I was in the third grade, I represented Zigong City in the Sichuan Sprout Cup football competition, when I was only nine years old. The members of the team were the top drawn from various schools, and only I was drawn from our school.
I participated in three consecutive Nseung Cup competitions, during which time I was attracted by the provincial coaches, contacted my parents, and sent me from Zigong to Chengdu. My father was a man of few words, but I could feel that he was very happy. He tried to have more business trips to Chengdu so that he could come to see me often.
Although I am not very old, I have my own ideas in my heart, the jersey on the chest should not only wear "Zigong", I will wear "Sichuan". So every time I play I'm very serious and cherish it. I came to Chengdu alone in September 1983, when I was 12 years old. Many players who have played with me since childhood, Leshan, Mianyang, Chengdu and Chongqing, have all gathered in the Sichuan Provincial Junior Training Team and trained in the Provincial Sports Technology College.
I did not directly enter the professional team, but most of the members of the sports brigade are already professional teams, and other sports are also in the "Provincial Technical Institute", it can be said that living in a circle of athletes, a place dedicated to cultivating excellent athletes, the identity and position that they put themselves in have also changed, and in Zigong is not the same thing.
Life in the junior training team is the same as college life, but unlike today's students who have winter and summer vacations, they can only go home once a year. When I first went, I was also very homesick, I didn't have a washing machine and couldn't wash my clothes, so I picked and picked clothes from the pile of dirty clothes. The training team has about eight people in a dormitory, with bunk beds. Winter is very cold, there is no air conditioning and no heating, falling asleep is very difficult, lying in bed at night to think, what are the friends of the same age in the hometown doing, and what they are doing. My motto is to want to give and get proportionally, because I feel like I'm giving too much more than my peers.
Separated from his parents, only his teammates are around. In Zigong, because it is a children's school, the school is very close to home, after arriving in Chengdu, going to school to take the bus, in the morning to go out of the morning exercise, play to seize the time to wash, eat breakfast, and then go to school by yourself. My teammates were assigned to take cultural classes at different schools in Chengdu, and there were about four or five people in the same school as me.
Everything in life has to come according to the regulations, washing time, evening study time, and lights out time. Everyone trains together, sits on the bus together, wants to skip class, so they make an appointment to run out of the last two classes, where to meet, play table tennis, after all, the age is still young, everyone has a time to play greedily, once found by the coach, they will be scolded and punished. Group life is very conducive to brotherhood, so we are all very good friends until now, although so many years have passed.
In addition to football, I like to play table tennis with my teammates in my free time. The white clothes I was wearing were the national team uniforms, and on the left stood my teammate Ma Mingyu.
There are about 20 people in the junior team, more than 30 times, but the composition of the team is not fixed, every quarter is eliminating people, supplementing new people, and in the end there may be only about 10 people left. Whenever a teammate who has a particularly good relationship with me is eliminated, my heart is not a taste, and after spending so long together, I still can't bear these partners. After they were eliminated by the provincial team, they basically gave up football, and they are certainly not suitable to continue to take the professional road, and some may still be engaged in youth training. It may seem cruel to the onlookers, but this project is like this, always picking the best people to form a team.
When I stepped into my father's car and he sent me to Chengdu, I secretly swore that I would not be able to retreat, that I would not be eliminated and sent back. If I return to Zigong from Chengdu, I am afraid that my classmates or people in the factory will look down on me and laugh at me. I have given so much, I can't give up halfway, and no matter how big the difficulty is, it won't be much bigger. This mentality prompted me to redouble my efforts. The local team members in Chengdu went home during the weekend holidays, and a few of us from other places could not go back, so we practiced together.
In 1985, I represented the province for the first time in the national Youth Games, put on the "Sichuan" jersey, and for the first time achieved the goal I set for myself. I was so proud that sometimes I put on my training clothes in class, because there were two words "Sichuan" on my chest.
In the second half of 1985, I got a job transfer and joined the professional team, which meant that I had a salary and started to earn money, which also meant that I faced greater challenges. The coaches in front of them are more professional and the training content is completely different.
When I was a child, I always played as a striker, thinking that the striker could score goals, and the goals were more brilliant, and the performance on the field was the easiest to see and the most prominent. This is a kind of heroism, football project of course to reflect the individual, but more or the overall offensive and defensive drills. I used to practice a lot of basic things, but when I entered a professional team, I would teach you how to play team football. The training was very intense, there was no time for you to mix, and it was also at this time that I did not have much time to continue studying, so I terminated my homework in school.
Professional teams are divided into one team, two teams, three teams, generally three teams can be selected to two teams, two teams and then to one team. Each team's age group is different, and as they age, they compete in the junior tournament in the third team, to the youth tournament in the second team, and then to the senior competition in the first team. In the professional team, the biggest wish is to participate in the National Games, and in 1990, I represented the Sichuan team in the preliminary round of the National Games.

After joining the professional team, my path has been relatively smooth. In 1986, I directly entered the national junior team, entered the national youth team in 1989, entered the national Olympic Games in 1990, and I was in the national team in 1994. After entering the national youth, there are more competitions at once, whether it is practice competitions or intercontinental competitions, almost 100 games a year.
Always in the game state, my ability and performance on the field has become stronger and stronger as I have grown older. At that stage, training can't teach you anything, and a good coach is to keep you in shape and then take the form to the game. I've always felt that training is the best way to train, and only when you play more games will more coaches pay attention to you.
From Sichuan to Beijing, my father once called me once. Of course, he was happy in his heart, I could feel it, but he still told me to work harder, to be humble, to mingle more with my teammates, to lead by example everywhere, and these words I still remember to this day.
In the second half of 1993, we learned that China was going to start having professional leagues, which was a good thing for athletes, from professional athletes to professional athletes. I know that the biggest impact on me is that the treatment will change, I remember that at that time my salary was a fitness level, one hundred and seven yuan a month, but after I switched to a profession, the salary was more than 3,000, which was 30 times that of before.
After entering the national team, I represented the national team in the national team competition; During the professional league, I played in Sichuan Quanxing.
In the first year of the 1994 Chinese Professional Football League, he scored the first goal of the professional league. A lot of people have asked me what kind of mood I was in at that time, but I didn't feel it at all, I really didn't know that the game started at the same time. The opening ceremony of 94 years was in Chengdu, our first game was to compete with Liaoning, when who could think of scoring goals, Liaoning team is big brother, four consecutive championships, we can lose less points is not bad, who knows the opening seven minutes, our team got a penalty.
Because it was the first ball, and against such a strong opponent, I felt that some of the players were more nervous, so I took the initiative to run to Coach Yu Dongfeng and said to him, I will take this penalty, and then this penalty will be scored. After the game, a media reporter told me, Mr. Wei, congratulations, you scored the first goal of the Chinese Professional League. That's when I realized, ah, that ball was the first goal. I think it's pretty normal.
Some fans were still telling me that day, in the first year of the professional league, I seemed to have 7 goals? Anyway, I went in a lot. At that time, I was no longer playing as a striker, I was a right-back, but I was also an offensive defender, with a lot of goals, and some fans called me a "knife defender".
In 2001, in the 9th round of the A-League, I represented Sichuan Quanxing (Sichuan Business Pass) in the match against Shandong Luneng.
I was only 23 years old in '94, a young player, not very mature, still growing. On the pitch, when you encounter a little bit of bad adjustment of your own state, your mentality will not be adjusted, maybe this game will play very poorly, this is a young performance.
When my mood fluctuates, it is not necessarily when I concede a goal, and maybe the overall atmosphere of the football field affects me more. Playing football is all about passion, about a fan atmosphere, so now the pandemic, a lot of empty games, no spectators, I think it's meaningless, there's no passion. Tens of thousands of people waved their flags and shouted, and the feeling was completely different.
When I played in the Sichuan Quanxing team, I had a very good relationship with the fans, including the presidents of the Chengdu Fans Association and the Sichuan Provincial Fans Association, and I was very close to them. When there was my game, they watched almost every game, and the fans made me a scrap newspaper to collect all the reports about me in the past newspapers.
I've scored a lot of goals in my career, and the one I remember most is in 1996, in the sixth round of A A, we had a side volley that was masked by Mamelo's heel goal, and in fact both of us had very beautiful goals in that game. There was also a hat-trick against Samsung in 1997, all three of which were scored in sport and there were no penalties.

At that time, it was my peak period, but in addition to scoring a goal that was quite exciting, I didn't think too much, I think I'm a professional player, it should be like this, every week is to prepare for the league, after one game, quickly adjust the mentality, prepare for the next game.
The biggest stadium for the national team should be the 1997 World Cup qualifiers, the Asian qualifiers, playing for the national team, and playing professional games. I'm not a nervous player, I'm the kind of player who has a lot of fans, and the more I make a fuss, the more I let go. The World Cup is indeed more exciting than ever.

In the qualifiers, I think everyone played well, my teammate Ma Mingyu played very well, he was also the captain of the national team later, Li Bing was also very eye-catching, I was also satisfied with my own play, I think it is a passing result. In the end, I failed to qualify, of course, there are regrets, there must be regrets, that can be said to be the closest to the World Cup. After the regret, I was thinking that if I could not represent the national team in the World Cup, it would definitely be a problem of ability, and if the ability could not be reached, you could not participate.
But how many footballers in the world can't all go to the World Cup. As a former member of the national team, even if it is a base of the pyramid, a paving stone, I think it is enough and satisfied.

In the World Cup qualifiers, I had some differences in technical and tactical opinions on the drawdown. Sometimes for the sake of my teammates, I might fight for it. In 1999, when the head coach of Sichuan Quanxing was Tavares, I remember it was the FA Cup, we played in Guiyang and Guangzhou Songri, played until 89 minutes, the score was still 0-0, at this time the old tower may have been a little unhappy. In the 89th minute, my teammate goalkeeper Gao Jianbin once broke off his hand and was killed. After returning to the lounge, I saw that Lao Ta and Gao Jianbin had some conflicts, verbally, he may think that Gao Jianbin did not handle the ball well.
All the players were lost, and he was the only one to blame, so I told him to shut up. I think the coach shouldn't blame the players at this time, the really smart coach will take the responsibility. We were both a little emotional. However, later he also told me that between us men, if there is anything, don't say it behind your back, just take it to the face, this is also very good. I said, I think you went a little too far that day, so I bumped into you in person, and that's where I'm wrong, as a player, always obey the coach.

In the ninth year, I had a teammate named Liu Cheng, who had a fracture during training and lived in the Sports Hospital in Chengdu. It was almost the Spring Festival, and I suddenly remembered that I still had a teammate living in the hospital, his hometown was in Hunan, and he would definitely not be able to go home for the New Year. That afternoon, I drove to the hospital and took him home to Chinese New Year's Eve.
I took him with me to set off fireworks and watch fireworks, and I saw him in tears for the first time. It was a very normal little thing for me, but it was different for him, and he felt that I let him find a home during the New Year. He still mentions it to this day.

In 2000, I accomplished another big thing in my life besides football, and I got married. My lover was a badminton player in Sichuan Province before, and then he did not take the road of professional athletes and did the financial industry. In 1986, we met at the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Sports Technology, and we lived together every day, ate together, walked together for training, and saw each other every day. She has a very cheerful personality and is very good at getting along.
In 1999, I was injured in a race, fractured my acromicle, and spent a week in the hospital, probably the worst injury of my career. At that time to do surgery, the doctor did not agree, he wrapped a bandage to insist on the game, and then slowly improved, but left sequelae, until now a cloudy day, the shoulder will hurt.
The hospital where I lived was close to my wife's house, and she talked to me on the phone when she was fine, and sometimes came to the hospital to see me and bring me something to eat. When I was about to recover, one day she said, go to her house for a meal, I said yes, and I went. The relationship had not yet been formalized at that time.
I was a little embarrassed to go to her house, I didn't dare to go alone, and I pulled up a teammate of mine, afraid that I was too nervous to let go. When I went to her house for dinner, I still had bandages around my shoulders and hung them around my neck. At first I thought her parents were serious, until everyone sat down to eat and they gave me a dish, and I let go a little. After eating this time, my wife and I established a relationship and got married after more than a year together.

In 2002, my career changed a bit, and I was suddenly listed, suspended, and suspended, which I didn't expect. Now that it has appeared, I have also thought about either not playing and preparing to retire. I was 31 years old at the time, and the atmosphere and environment of Sichuan football at that time was no longer suitable for me to stay, I felt that they were not here to engage in football, with too many commercial things, then I left.
When I was ready to give up playing football, Qi Wusheng's guide told me why I should give up, you are still young, if you can't do it, come to me. It can be said that Qi Guidance took me in, and I transferred to The Red Pagoda in Yunnan. In fact, at that time, I had already let go, and I was all people who wanted to retire, but since I chose, I had to do what an old player should do in the Red Tower, even if I didn't play often, but in my usual training and life, I would unite this team better and make them more effective.
Sometimes I represent yunnan hongta and play against the Sichuan team, which I think is weird. I can say that it is a banner of Sichuan football, in this capacity to play against the Sichuan team, you say I am not strange? Definitely not a taste in the heart.
A season later, the Red Tower was disbanded. At the end of the 2003 season, I also retired. Until now, it is unlikely that I will retire at the age of thirty-one or two, there are players who are still playing at the age of thirty-seven or eight, and my physical condition at that time is also very good, and my physical fitness and level are no problem. No way, the environment is not suitable for me, or it is a pity.

Because I didn't expect to retire so early, I had no plans for my life after that, and I just thought about looking after I retired, and I wouldn't have any long-term planning. Detaching from high-intensity, high-intensity training and competition, I was really uncomfortable. I remember telling my wife that sometimes I didn't know what to do and was confused. For example, after eating at noon, according to the requirements of the professional team, a little rest, the afternoon will be training, but I am not the same at home, after eating I feel that there is nothing to do, I don't know what to do in the afternoon.
The pace of life was completely disrupted, and it took half a year to adapt to the new life clock. After half a year, I started planning to say that I was going to do something else. I went to learn the coaching certificate and tried to do a lot of business. I did coal mining, railroad business, and opened a restaurant, but in the end it ended in failure. Now I want to understand, athletes retire to earn some money, do not blindly invest, interlaced like a mountain.
I don't know how to explain "shopping malls like battlefields", mining is a very complicated thing, there are many things to face, not I can do it. The athlete industry is much simpler than other industries, and later I felt that football is my profession, and it is really difficult to have a successful transformation without football. But I've been playing amateur football. At the beginning, I made an appointment with Yao Xia and Zou Yougen, bought a house in the community, and usually asked them to play football when there was nothing to do, and I would play once or twice a week.

In 2008, I was appointed to head Sichuan Football Club. I am friends with the chairman of Sichuan Football Club, who is an investor. I was still abroad, and he called me and asked if I wanted to, because there were still six rounds to relegate, and I said yes, and I came back from abroad.
At that time, the relegation situation was not particularly good, and I still had to face Xu Genbao's SIPG, and the situation was not optimistic. But since my friend called me, I really like football, I can't do without football, there are challenges, I want to try. I also put forward the conditions, if you really relegate, you can't blame me.
During my time as the head coach of the club, there was a famous "hanging shot" in China, Qingdao played match-fixing, and I took the Sichuan team to that game. Doing something always has to be rewarded, not not to report, it is not time to arrive, so the Chinese football anti-corruption storm that appeared later. When I played football, the black whistle problem was also very serious, and I caught a lot of referees later.
Everyone thinks they are black whistles, but now there are some games, you also feel that the referee blows inexplicably, you can only say that he has a problem with his ability, and you can't say that he is deliberate, because you have no evidence, and Chinese football has regulations, you can't comment on the referee after the game.
In 2015, I went to the Victory League Cup International Legend Championship in Shanghai.
I worked as the head coach for two years and then came down, and the investors did not engage in it. After that, I basically worked in youth training. A few years ago, I was also the vice president and team leader of Chengdu Rongcheng Football Club, and I just retired this year, and I want to rest for a while and spend time with my family.
I had thought before that if I hadn't played football, like my father, driven a big truck, held the steering wheel bare-chested in the summer, and come home to make a cold beer, this life would be very cool. Now I still hope that I can live the life of a normal husband, the life of a father.
