Bhutan has historically become a vassal of the Tubo Dynasty from the 7th century and an independent tribe in the 9th century. It became Tibetan Buddhism in the 12th century.

Invaded by the British in the 18th century, the Kingdom of Bhutan was established in 1907.

1949 Permanent Treaty of Friendship between Bhutan and India

In 2007, Bhutan and India signed a new Treaty of Friendship between Bhutan and India, stipulating that Bhutan's foreign relations need to accept India's guidance.
