With an ominous premonition, India built its first "underwater subway" and 2 major problems were in front of it
As we all know, India has always had a "big country dream", and all aspects are not willing to be left behind, so is the economic development, and so is the strength of infrastructure. Although India's overall infrastructure level is backward, this does not affect its goal of becoming a "big infrastructure country". In recent years, india's investment in infrastructure can indeed be seen, such as building the world's tallest bridge, the world's second largest dam, etc., and recently it has played a new trick in the infrastructure field and begun to build the first "underwater subway", which is expected to be put into use in March 2023.
It is understood that the project has a total length of 16.6 kilometers, a total of 6 stations, located 13 meters below the riverbed, built with concrete with extremely low water permeability, and there are sidewalks in the tunnel to facilitate the evacuation of passengers in case of emergency. The underwater subway will cross the Hooghley River, connecting the two cities of West Bengal and Howrah, India. After opening to traffic, the traffic time will be shortened to less than 1 minute, which is a leap forward, and now traffic in India is all by ferry and road, the former taking 20 minutes to cross the river, the latter taking 30 minutes or even 45 minutes to reach the other side.
Therefore, after completion, the travel of people in these two places in India will become convenient and fast, and the official estimate is that 900,000 passengers will take the underwater subway every day, and the passenger flow is very large. India's construction of underwater subway is a good thing, but somehow there is always an ominous premonition, for the Indian side there are still 2 major problems in front of it: First, safety, the safety of Indian infrastructure does not dare to compliment, whether it is invested in a large amount of infrastructure projects, or ordinary bridges and dams, a large part of them are just built on the collapse, completely "tofu slag project".
The underwater subway is different from the land infrastructure, once there is a safety accident, most of the people can not escape, not to mention the difficulty of underwater infrastructure, according to India's infrastructure strength, can it really ensure its safety? Unless it can find a reliable foreign team, but this is the second point of the editor: when it will be opened to traffic is also unknown. Although handing over infrastructure orders to foreign teams is expected to ensure safety, India can always solve various problems, and Japan should have the most say in this regard, thinking that after snatching orders from China, it will be able to make a lot of money in India.
Unexpectedly, 5 years ago, the high-speed rail was only built for 10 kilometers, but the funds were almost spent, and this was due to the lack of cooperation in various parts of India, the difficulty of land acquisition, and the inaction of the authorities. In the end, Japan was trapped in the dilemma of India's high-speed rail, and it has not yet been able to get rid of it, so other foreign infrastructure teams may also face the same dilemma and have to be vigilant. Even if India builds it itself, it cannot guarantee that it will be put into use on time, and there are still many unfinished infrastructure projects in the country, so India still has a long way to go to become an "infrastructure power".
