#Japanese Wild Monkey Attacks Humans Injured 45 People According to U.S. and Japanese media reports on July 26, people in and near Yamaguchi, Japan, have been regularly attacked by wild macaques in the past three weeks, with at least 45 people injured. Local officials said the incident was very rare and was equipped with an anesthesia gun for police arrest.

Macaques are reportedly common in Japan, but a recent spate of attacks on humans in Yamaguchi is unusual because they have become targets for attacks ranging from children to the elderly. Some macaques push open windows or open sliding doors to enter the house, while others commit crimes outdoors. The victim was either scratched or bitten. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

Yamaguchi was unable to confirm whether the attack was one wild monkey or multiple wild monkeys. After the incident, the Japanese police set traps, patrols and other ways to hunt down the macaques, but did not catch a single one. On July 24, the local government equipped the police with anesthesia guns.

Japanese wildlife experts believe that Yamaguchi wild monkeys have often attacked humans recently, or are related to the decline in their natural habitat and the increase in the number of wild monkeys. If just banished with fireworks, wild monkeys may become hostile to humans and may not even return to their habitat.
