In the very heart of the Norwegian city of Bergen, a fish market lurks comfortably. Once upon a time, it was the center of gravity of urban life: fishermen from the sea sold their catches to merchants, who quickly sold fresh marine reptiles among the citizens.
Now the fish market hasn't lost its status as a place to buy the latest fresh fish caught in the sea a few hours ago. But this main significance adds one more thing: the fish market has become one of the main objects of the city, and tourists flock to Bergen.
There are always a lot of people at the fish market. Locals themselves rarely buy here, as the market is located in the heart of the city and the price of renting a stall here is cosmic. The large number of tourists will not reduce the price, so it is easier for locals to buy in the supermarket.
However, in the average supermarket, you often won't find a delicacy like this...
The freezer is filled with a wide variety of marine reptiles, from oysters and some other giant shells to octopuses and stone fish like never before.
I particularly like this example. Honestly, it's as if I didn't go to the market, but to the curious cabinet!
If there are connoisseurs of marine animals here, please tell me what the miracle in the photo looks like. It looks a bit like a well-being fish, but this one looks better and has smaller teeth.
If you want something more exotic, you can try whale meat. Although many countries around the world have banned the slaughter of whales, it is still sold here. Norway has protested an international moratorium on whaling, but few whales have been caught here.
In the nineties, only a few pieces were mined each year for scientific purposes, and now they allow themselves to score hundreds, including meat. Anyway, whale meat is a very rare product, so its price is terrible. All prices on the counter are Norwegian Krones. The ruble exchange rate is now rising, so it is easier to convert to euros: remove a zero from the price, and then calculate the cost of goods in euros. Overall, a small bag of whale meat costs 18 euros... No comment.
The fish market also serves traditional Norwegian fish soup. This dish is considered the basis of any dinner here, like the Russian cabbage soup.
There is nothing complicated with the recipe for the soup. In fact, it's just fish soup with cream and vegetable slices: onions, carrots, and sometimes potatoes. The fish itself is placed in different ways, depending on the cost of the part and the greed of the business owner; ）
A plate of soup costs about 550 rubles. It sounds expensive, but if you see how much of this soup is poured on a plate, the gift of speaking has to be restored for a long time: a thin soup that is exactly five tablespoons.
Caviar is sold here in the form of jars and tubes. Depending on the caviar in the tube, the price is also different. It's not cheap anyway, but it's Norway – it's cheap to walk down the street, and even then it's not always.
