Unique location
A SINGULAR LOCATION
XAPO is located in the old barracks in the heart of Gibraltar's Old Town, under the famous rocks of the area. The back of the building is adjacent to the original city walls and defensive tower ruins, and facing The Fortress Square , a lively social hub with many outdoor bars and restaurants. Built by the British Army in 1817, these barracks (or "batteries") are among the best-preserved military structures in this fortress town. Today, they are in a state of semi-destruction, their historical significance has not been taken seriously, and new uses are urgently needed. As part of the project, the arch cave adjacent to Xapo will be converted into a public area for arts and cultural events.

Project Introduction
THE PROJECT
The project aims to build the physical headquarters of XAPO, a company operating entirely in the digital realm, which occupies two arches in the barracks complex with a total area of 800 square meters, built of local limestone and supported by original wooden beams. The two arches and stone walls were cleaned and restored to maintain their original appearance, giving the space the feeling of an old gold and silver vault. Taking the intersection of archaeology and modern design as a starting point, Lagranja Studio restores and transforms arches through modern office layouts and furniture, as well as decorations made with digital craftsmanship, symbolizing the rapid transformation of the banking and monetary industries driven by technology.

Interior design scheme
THE INTERIOR DESIGN SCHEME
The project is guided by coordinated, practical, respectful of the architectural history and ingenious elements. Enter the arch from the main square to reach the reception area, flanked by a shallow pool, which balances the low height of the space and adds light to the dim space. On the right, the original stone arch leads to XAPO Bank, where customers can manage network currency transactions via ATMs. Behind this is a meeting room with a kitchenette and seating area. The other end of the arch leads to a walled terrace, which was originally a gunpowder storage facility at the bottom of the defensive tower. The terrace features garden walls and a barbecue area that can be used for work and leisure, or for combining two events. XAPO headquarters offices are clustered around the courtyard, and glass screens guarantee transparency and circulation.
