According to Lal's family, he was arrested on June 11 after his neighbors complained that he made inflammatory remarks on Facebook.

However, Lal told police he didn't know how to operate the phone, and it was possible that his son accidentally posted something while playing a game.

He was released on bail on the same day after police officer Bhanwarlal reached an agreement with both sides.

But Lal reported the case to police on June 15 on the grounds that his life was in danger.

In the June 15 complaint, Lal told police that five other people had searched his store along with the neighbours who complained about him. The men kept threatening that if they saw him anywhere, he would be killed.

In a complaint on June 15, he said: "About 6 days ago, my son posted something while playing a game on his mobile phone. I don't know about it. Two days later, two people came to my store. They say - you made an offensive post on your phone. I said, I don't know how to operate the phone. My kids play games on it. This may have been a misunderstanding. After that, the post was also deleted. They said don't do it again."

But, according to his family, police did not take the complaint seriously even as he continued to receive threats on WhatsApp phone calls.

His family even said lahr was forced to close his store for days for fear of being attacked.

A family member said: "This poor man did not open a shop for 6 days because he was worried about his own life. On Tuesday, however, he was beheaded when he opened the store. If the police had acted on his complaint in time, he might still be alive today."

On Tuesday, the two defendants came to Lal's Supreme tailor shop on Maldas Street and pretended to sew a dress. One of the defendants was filming the entire act, while the other defendant, who was being measured by Lal, suddenly turned to him and attacked him with a sharp weapon.

The two defendants were identified as Riaz Akhtari and Ghouse Mohammad, who were arrested within hours in the neighbouring Rajsamand district.

After Lal was brutally murdered, police official Banvarar was suspended for dereliction of duty. Another police officer is also under investigation.
