Domestic animals and health

At present, about 200 zoonotic diseases have been confirmed, and 34 have been endemic in many countries. In order to eradicate zoonotic diseases, the source of infection should first be reduced or eliminated, i.e. the reduction or elimination of pathogens; The second is to eliminate the vector and cut off the route of transmission; The third is to enhance the natural and specific resistance of the human and animal organisms. These three principles are based on the conditions necessary for the occurrence of infectious diseases, so they apply to all kinds of infectious diseases. Owners of domestic dogs, cats, and birds should also abide by these three principles. The specific prevention and control measures are as follows:

1. Sick animals should be kept in isolation. Dogs with rabies and cats with toxoplasmosis should be executed. Animals suffering from general bacterial VES should be treated.

2. Sick and dead animal carcasses, containing a large number of pathogens, must be cremated. Some small animals can be soaked in 5% of the Lyso er overnight and buried, in short, must be harmless treatment.

3. Timely remove the excrement and secretions of diseased animals, carry out accumulation fermentation or incineration, and can also be disinfected or soaked with 5% fire alkali water.

4. Cages, troughs, nests, barns and other utensils used by sick or dead animals should be disinfected or soaked with 5% fire alkali water.

5. When handling the above utensils and excrement, wear a mask and do not make the dust fly.

6. Kill insects (fleas, mosquitoes, ticks, lice, etc.) to kill rats.

7. Wash your hands with soap after feeding the animals.

8. Don't let cats and dogs lick people's hands and faces.

9. Pay attention to dietary hygiene, do not eat raw meat, raw milk and raw eggs.

10. Pay attention to environmental hygiene and personal hygiene, and cut off the route of infection.

11. Regular vaccination of domestic animals is one of the important links in the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases. Pharmacological prophylaxis is an emergency measure taken against threatened people and animals after the onset of illness. Regular deworming is also one of the measures to enhance the body's resistance.
