CAIRO – 18 April 2022: Coinciding with World Heritage Day, the Royal Mummy Hall of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization opens its doors to visitors, which houses 22 mummies of ancient Egyptian kings and queens.

Earlier, royal mummies were transported in a solemn procession from the Egyptian Museum in Taril to the new permanent resting place of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Forstad.

In the Royal Mummy Hall, staff spent two weeks unpacking the mummies, putting them in display cases and preparing them, and showing them to the public on April 18. Since the mummies were transferred to the Egyptian National Museum of Civilization, staff began using the latest scientific methods to separate mummies from nitrogen capsules and adapt them to the museum's new exhibition environment. Saeed Abul Fader, director of the Central Hall and The Royal Mummy Hall of the Egyptian National Museum of Civilization, said work had been in full swing since the Royal Mummy Reception on April 3. He explained that each mummy was placed in its display case, along with its coffin and the funerary furniture found with it. He also added that each mummy has an interpretation panel next to which an X-ray examination is placed. Speaking about the display scene in the Royal Mummy Hall, Abul Fadl said that visitors will feel awe, sacred and private when visiting the mummies of the great kings of Egypt. The hall is well prepared in terms of design and lighting. Among the mummies on display are the mummies of King Ramses II; Wang Xuren Redao; King Thutmose III; King Seti I; Queen Hatshepsut; and Queen Meritaman, wife of King Amenhotep I; and Queen Ahmose Nefertari, wife of King Ahmose I.
