Hong Kong student Lo Shi-fang: "I want to create a concentric circle and contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area"

With convenient transportation, convenient life, vigorous development vitality, open and inclusive multiculturalism, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is attracting more and more young people in Hong Kong to come here to chase their dreams and realize their values. From today, Global Information Radio launched a special plan for "Hong Kong Youth Dreaming of the Greater Bay Area" to tell the dream stories of these young people in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong student Lo Shi-fang: "I want to create a concentric circle and contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area"

"This year [is] the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, and we are very excited and honored. We were recently planning an event to relive the road to hong kong and feel the excitement of the return of Hong Kong. Hong Kong girl Lao Shifang came to Jinan University from Hong Kong in 2018 to study, and now she is a senior at Jinan University. In an interview with reporters, she and her classmates were meticulously preparing activities to welcome the upcoming 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

Lao Shifang's ancestral home is Jiangmen, Guangdong Province, and before she came to Jinan University to study, she would follow her family back to her hometown every year to worship her ancestors. During the many trips between Hong Kong and the mainland, she gradually developed the intention of studying in the mainland. "I saw the great rivers and mountains of the motherland, especially the rapid development of the mainland, so I came to the mainland with this curiosity to study, and then started my own story of the Greater Bay Area."

At Jinan University, Ms. Lo chose an international politics major that was relatively unpopular for Hong Kong students. She admits that four years of study have benefited her a lot. "After I study international politics, I will look more at social events or international issues from the perspective of the big picture, that is, from the perspective of a big country. I think it makes my whole person grow and think, [becomes] richer and more mature. ”

From a larger perspective, the young Lao Shifang has been trying to think and practice from the perspective of witnesses and observers. In June 2019, she created the first volunteer service team in the school for Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese, hoping to give back to the society in the form of public welfare services, and at the same time help more young people from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to enhance their sense of identity with their home country. She said: "I hope to create a concentric circle and a circle of peers, which can contribute to the Greater Bay Area, and hope to attract more local young people in Hong Kong to participate in the overall development of the country." I very much hope that our new group of young people in Hong Kong, who love the motherland and love Hong Kong, can give you some help and promotion, so that the young people of Guangdong and Hong Kong can enhance exchanges and build a bridge between them. ”

In November 2019, Lao Shifang and her classmates visited the "Large-scale Achievement Exhibition Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China" in Beijing and watched the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square. Looking back on the past, she has a strong sense of pride and belonging. "Looking back at the past few decades, I feel that every step has been experienced from scratch, from weak to strong. When we watch the five-star red flag flying in the air, we will be proud of ourselves as Chinese, proud of the prosperity of the motherland, and more firm in our conviction, so that our group of Hong Kong students will be more firm in our position of patriotism and love for Hong Kong. ”

In May this year, Ms. Lo won the title of "Top Ten Outstanding Hong Kong Students in the First Greater Bay Area". For this honor, Luo Shifang blurted out, first of all, thanks. "I feel very grateful to myself. The Greater Bay Area is a good platform for pursuing dreams, whether it is studying or working, there are endless opportunities that can be provided to us. Especially after the development plan of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in 2019, our sense of belonging has been enhanced. ”

With this belief and love, Lo Shifang looks forward to returning to Hong Kong with full harvest after her studies and continuing to contribute to the communication and prosperity and development of Hong Kong and the mainland. "I will return to the community in Hong Kong after graduation, hoping to promote more exchanges and learning between local young people in Hong Kong and young people in the mainland, so that they can better understand the feelings of home and country, and can also better understand the significance of the successful practice of 'one country, two systems'."
