At the Hernum Temple in Esna, Egypt, researchers in Germany and Egypt discovered a series of brightly colored ceiling frescoes. The relief images in the central part of the ceiling constitute a total of 46 depictions of Nehebet, the goddess of the vultures of Upper Egypt, and Vadjet, the goddess of the lower Egyptian serpent.

Researchers have been working since 2018 to uncover the paintings and inscriptions on these reliefs and to show their original colors.

Temples and ancient idols are usually painted in bright colors, but these have often faded or even disappeared completely due to external influences.
