The first IPv6 Arab-African Regional IPv6 Industry Summit was successfully held in Tunisia

On 9 May 2022, the IPv6 Arab-African Trans-Regional Summit, hosted by the Arab Organization for Information and Communication Technologies (AICTO), was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Tunis. More than 100 guests from AICTO, African Telecommunication Union ATU, RIPE NCC, Tunisian Ministry of Communications, ETSI IPE Alliance, ITU, AFRINIC, tunisian three major operators: Tunisian Telecom, Tunisian Orange, Tunisia ooredoo and Huawei attended the summit to discuss and formulate a strategic route for the transition to IPv6 and share successful experiences in IPv6 deployment.

IPE Chair Latif Ladid delivered a keynote address

Latif Ladid, Chairman of the ETSI IPE Alliance, made an opening speech, pointing out that countries have gradually deepened their understanding of the importance of IPv6, introduced policies to accelerate IPv6 deployment, and encouraged regional countries to learn from global successful experiences and introduce policies to promote IPv6 deployment. ETSI IPE Alliance is actively promoting global IPv6 development and innovation, there are currently 80+ members, welcome all parties in the industry to actively join the IPE Alliance, and jointly promote the development of global IPv6.

Dr. Xiao Xipeng, senior expert of Huawei's European Standards and Industry Development Department, said that the current global IPv6 development momentum is strong, the terminal-network-application industry chain has been opened, and many challenges encountered in the evolution to pure IPv6 networks are being gradually solved, ETSI IPE Alliance can provide evolution guidance and success stories, and countries can rest assured that the network will migrate from IPv4 to IPv6.

Wang Dong, executive vice president of Huawei North Africa, pointed out that IP networks are evolving from IPv4 to IPv6, and technological innovation based on IPv6 has become an inevitable trend in the evolution of network upgrades. Some countries in the Arab and African regions are already leading the world in the practice and deployment of IPv6 Enhanced. Looking to the future, Huawei is committed to building a fully connected, ultra-intelligent era where people can use the Internet safely and equally, and communication and development around the world will be barrier-free.

AICTO Releases White Paper on IPv6+ Development in the Arab-African Region

At the meeting, AICTO released the "White Paper on IPv6+ Development in the Arab-African Region". The white paper introduces the IPv6 and IPv6 Enhanced (IPv6+) innovation system, demonstrates the successful experience of global IPv6 policy, and calls on the African region to increase support for IPv6+ industrial policy.
