Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Lockhold and Brazilian striker Paul Costa finally have news that the match will kick off on July 30 at UFC 277.
Luke Lockhold (16-5, 6 K, 8 S) is 37 years old and has a height of 191cm with an arm span of 196cm. He began his professional MMA MMA mixed martial arts career in 2007 and has played a nine-game winning streak since 2008 when Lockhode won a nine-game winning streak, including winning the Strikeforce middleweight gold belt in 2011 with a point-and-roll victory over "Crocodile" Ronaldo Souza, and two consecutive consecutive titles in 2012. Lockhold joined the UFC race (10-1) in 2013, but was defeated by Vitor Belfort in his first KO debut. However, he has won five consecutive victories since 2014, including the UFC middleweight championship gold belt in the fourth leg in December 2015, when TKO Chris Weidman won the UFC middleweight championship. The first defending title of 2016 was debuffed by Michael Bisping's first KO loss, TKO David Branch in the second inning of 2017, Yoel Romero in the third KO in 2018 and Lockholder's promotion to light heavyweights in July against Jan Blachowicz. Paul Costa (13-2, 11 K, 1 S) is 31 years old and has an arm span of 183 cm. He began his professional MMA career in 2012 and in 2014, he participated in the TUF selection with a (3-0) result and regretted that he had failed to enter the UFC competition. He won the Face to Face middleweight title in 2015 and the Jungle Fight middleweight title in 2016 and defended the title once. He joined the UFC tournament with a (8-0) score in 2017, first playing a five-game winning streak at the UFC and ending the opponent with four KO endings, including TKO Johny Hendricks and Uriah Hall in the second set, and a 2019 point-point victory over Yoel Romero. Unfortunately, in September 2020, Israel Adesanya, who challenged UFC middleweight champion, suffered his first career defeat by TKO in the second set, just after losing points to Marvin Vettori in October 2021. Costa is currently ranked 6th in the welterweight of the official UFC rankings.
The tournament also confirmed two high-profile showdowns, with American star Derek Lewis (26-9, 21 K, 1 S, 1 N) against Russian rising star Sergei Pavlovich (15-1, 12 K, 0 S). Russian rising star Magomed Ankarayev (17-1, 9 K, 0 S) against American Toughman Anthony Smith (36-16, 20 K, 14 S).
