Former doubleweight champion Daniel Comer entered the 2022 UFC Hall of Fame

UFC China – During yesterday's UFC274, the UFC announced the introduction of former lightweight and heavyweight double champion Daniel Cormier to the 2022 UFC Hall of Fame "Contemporary Celebrities" section.

"Daniel Comer is one of the best players in UFC history." UFC President Dana White said. "Comill played against the world's greatest players in MMA and wrestling, and he was also very professional. As an active fighter, Comille always found time to attend media events, which made him one of the most recognizable commentators in the entire sports world. Comer is the UFC's most successful ambassador of all time, and it is a great honor to be introduced to the UFC Hall of Fame. ”

Comer will join the UFC Hall of Fame's "Contemporary Celebrities" section, which is used to honor pros who debuted after November 17, 2000 (the MMA Uniform Rules came into force), in addition to meeting criteria for being over 35 years old or retired for at least one year. UFC players who have joined the "Celebrities of the Day" section include Forrest Griffin (2013), BJ Penn (2015), Urijah Faber (2017), Ronda Rousey (2018), Michael Bisping (2019), Rashad Evans (2019), Georges St-Pierre (2020), Khabib Nurmagomedov (2022).

Comill played a total of 26 games in his 11-year professional MMA career, with a record of 22 wins, 3 losses and 1 no result, including 18 wins, 3 losses and 1 no result at UFC/Strickforce. Notable players he has beaten include former UFC heavyweight champions Stipe Miocic, Frank Mir, Josh Barnett, and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, former UFC middleweight champion and former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson, Former Cage Warriors superweight champion Antonio Silva and more. He has also beaten non-champions including Alexander Gustafsson, Anthony Johnson and Derrick Lewis.

Comill made his professional MMA debut at the Strikeforce event on September 25, 2009, beating Gary Frazier in the second leg. After that, Comill won 10 consecutive races, becoming king of the Cage heavyweight champion and winning the 2012 Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship.

Komill then signed for the UFC and defeated former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mill by unanimous verdict in his octagonal debut on 20 April 2013. After four consecutive wins at the UFC, Comill engaged in a light heavyweight title battle with Jon Jones, but was defeated by unanimous decision. Four months later, he surrendered his opponents in a championship battle against Anthony Johnson, winning his first UFC title.

In July 2018, Comill challenged then UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocchi and ko-won his second UFC title in the first leg. In November of the same year, he defeated Derek Lewis in a heavyweight title defense battle, becoming the first player in UFC history to hold and defend two welterweight titles at the same time. In August 2020, after losing three times against Miocchi, Comill announced his retirement.

Throughout his career, Comill has been training at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) boxing gym in San Jose, California, and has maintained a long-term relationship with coach Javier Mendez.

He is one of only 4 players in UFC history to hold a doubleweight title at the same time (light heavyweight and heavyweight).

He set a record for the most effective hits in a single game in the UFC heavyweights against Miocchi in a UFC 241 match (181).

He set the UFC record for the most effective hits in a single head in a single game (162) in a UFC 241 match against Miocci.

He set the UFC all-time record for the 2nd most effective hit in a single head in a light heavyweight single game (111) in a UFC 192 match against Gustfussen.

He is the 3rd most battleground player in UFC history to win a light heavyweight championship (4 games)

He is the 3rd highest heavyweight hit in UFC history (61.6%)

His match against Gustefsen in UFC 192 set an all-time record for the 3rd most effective hits in a single game in the UFC light heavyweights (140).

His match against Gustevson in UFC 192 set an all-time record for the 3rd most effective close-range hits in a single game in the UFC light heavyweights (48).

He tied for the 10th most championship-winning battlegrounds in UFC history (6 games)

Born in Louisiana, Comill won several wrestling championships in high school and college. He won gold medals in wrestling at the 2002 and 2003 Pan American Games and represented the U.S. national team in the 2004 and 2008 Olympic wrestling competitions.

Outside of the octagon, Comill became an outstanding martial arts commentator at ESPN and also served as a commentator for UFC events. He also co-hosts DC & RC with NFL Super Bowl champion Ryan Clark and creates his own digital show, The DC Check-In, on YouTube. Earlier this year, he was also invited by ESPN to be a commentator for the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Comill also served as a full-time wrestling team head coach at Gilroy High School, in addition to coaching at the Daniel Cormier Wrestling Academy. He currently lives with his wife and three children in Gilroy, California.

The 2022 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on June 30, local time at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be broadcast exclusively through the UFC FIGHT PASS platform, which will also be one of the components of this year's UFC International Fighting Week. (UFC China Dana)
