Good news: Coffee not only "lasts", but also reduces the risk of gout

The 360th original article

The other day, when I learned about BJ's recent situation, the little sister with coordinates SH sent care greetings overnight, as well as a hoarding guide based on actual combat experience. Little Master Sister also paid special attention to the fact that I had to prepare "enough coffee" - a life-sustaining artifact that both the SH masses and the BJ social animals could not do without.

For many friends, coffee has become an indispensable "soul mate" in life, and even a partner can not be, coffee can not be broken~

Coffee, this magical little fruit, is really worth everyone's fascination and love. In addition to refreshing the mind and expelling bad emotions, it has many health benefits. It has been shown to help control serum cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, prevent liver fibrosis and sclerosis, reduce the risk of gallstone kidney stones, reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease, and even help lose weight (of course, provided that you do not drink high-calorie coffee with a lot of cream and sugar) and reduce the incidence and mortality of certain cancers. In addition, it may also save some of the driver's friends from the risk of sleepy road killers

Details can be learned by reviewing the old text: Can drinking coffee really lose weight? Will it be "sad"? Can it cure the disease?.

Recently, there is another good news: drinking coffee can reduce the risk of gout. This conclusion from the Japanese research team will make patients with hyperuricemia and gout blossom happily.

Let's review the knowledge of gout first.

Hyperuricemia, a metabolic syndrome characterized by increased levels of blood uric acid caused by disorders of purine metabolism.

Gout, when the level of blood uric acid exceeds its saturation in blood or tissues, or the limit of dissolution, may form urate deposits in the joint cavity and form tophi. When gout attacks occur, patients often have severe pain in one or more joints, accompanied by redness, swelling, increased skin temperature, and redness, tension, and shininess on the surface of the joints.

Gout, gout, as the name suggests, is very painful when the attack occurs! Although hyperuricemia does not necessarily develop into gout, once it occurs, it is still quite painful

Friends who have hyperuricemia problems, or who have already experienced gout attacks, will be warned to stay away from some foods to avoid a spike in blood uric acid. For example, shellfish seafood, beer, animal offal and so on. Even fruit juices and other small sweet waters containing added sugar are restricted.

It feels like there is no joy in life...

If there is any food or drink that is both beautiful and reduces the risk of gout, it should be cured!

Coffee is the clear stream of the water world of life-sustaining happiness, so that "addiction" and "redemption" do not contradict each other, and help gout humans perfectly realize the luxury of "fish and bear paws can be both"!

In fact, before the Japanese team's study, European and American scholars have proposed that coffee can reduce the risk of gout. The reason why this study is very meaningful is that for the first time, through Mendelian randomization analysis, it provides statistical support for the conclusion that "coffee reduces the risk of gout", which confirms the friendly relationship between the two.

Why emphasize Mendelian randomization analysis? In simple terms, using this data analysis method, the association between genes and diseases is not disturbed by common confounding factors such as the environment, socioeconomic status, and behavioral factors after birth, and the causal timing is reasonable, so that the effect estimate is closer to the real situation.

The Japanese team's study, using statistics on genome-wide associations from 150,000 Japanese, analyzed the correlation between these three events:

Number of days of coffee per week

Risk of developing gout

Blood uric acid levels

The conclusion is that compared to people who do not drink coffee:

Drinking 1 to 3 cups of coffee (237ml/cup) a day reduced the risk of gout by 22%

Drinking four or more cups a day reduced the risk of gout by 57%

For every extra day of coffee during the week, the risk of gout is reduced by 25%

Why does coffee reduce the risk of gout?

Principle: The caffeine contained in coffee is a methylxanthine that inhibits the enzymes required for uric acid production (i.e., xanthine oxidase), thereby reducing the production of uric acid.

So, is the happiness of such a two-way rush, the more the better?

Although the Japanese study did not emphasize the dose relationship between coffee intake and gout risk, many previous studies have warned coffee lovers that excessive caffeine intake can easily increase the occurrence of insomnia, anxiety, and increased blood pressure. Caffeine intake ≥ 1.2 grams (equivalent to 8 cups of 355 ml coffee shop American, or 5 cups of 355 ml freshly brewed coffee), it can also lead to anxiety, restlessness, nervousness, insomnia, excessive excitement, psychomotor agitation, and confusion or poor expression of thought or language... and other adverse reactions.

Therefore, regardless of the risk of gout, adults should not consume more than 400 mg of caffeine. The following figure comes from the official micro of New England magazine, and everyone can compare to understand how much caffeine their favorite coffee contains.

In addition to the 400 mg caffeine limit, you need to know the following things:

The intake of added sugars increases the risk of blood uric acid and gout. In many sweet coffees, a lot of syrup is added, even if it is semi-sugar flavored, the syrup content is not low. So if you drink coffee with added sugar, don't expect it to be effective in reducing the risk of gout...

Excessive caffeine intake, in addition to the adverse reactions mentioned earlier, is also easy to increase the loss of urinary calcium. So don't covet the cup in order to reduce the risk of gout Oh ~ Of course, you can choose to drink milk coffee, so that you can make up for the lost calcium!

Coffee with sugar and cream and coconut meat is a liquid heat bomb, and if you have two or three cups, it is a proper long meat artifact. The contribution of gaining weight to gout cannot be ignored. So, you get the idea...

If you happen to be a slow caffeine metabolism, knock on the blackboard again to remind: too much coffee intake will affect your sleep! If you drink coffee hard to reduce the risk of gout, you may not be worth the loss! After all, sleeping too poorly increases the risk of obesity, and obesity increases the risk of gout (what a cycle of not wanting to see it~)
