After returning to Geely, can the "small factory" Meizu return to the peak?

It would definitely be a win-win option

Although it has not received an official announcement, the acquisition of Meizu has basically become a foregone conclusion.

It is hard to imagine that the title of the pioneer of domestic smart phones on the head, Meizu, who was still fighting with Xiaomi back and forth, not only became a "small factory in Zhuhai" ten years later, but also had to sign this deed of sale.

However, this is really a last resort, from the peak of 22 million units in 2016 when the shipments fell to only 1.5 million units in 2021, meizu fell too fast and too fiercely in the past five years.

If you want to sum up the reasons for this, you can say that it is one wrong step at a time.

Whether it was the break with Qualcomm that year, forced to bet on MediaTek, or cut the most popular charm blue series, and finally had to face layoffs and close offline stores.

Meizu seems to have opened its eyes to the sky, always avoiding the right option when faced with a choice, and then the end is a drop.

Now open Jingdong and enter the Meizu flagship store, the mobile phone products inside are only the 18 series and the 17 series of the previous generation with Qualcomm Snapdragon's previous generation flagship processor. The rest of the related goods are also pitifully small, a watch, a headset and a charging treasure that sells for 999 yuan.

I can't even believe that the highest-selling phone case in meizu's Jingdong flagship store is actually for the iPhone 13 series.

I clearly remember that Apple's parent company is a hammer that has been cold, not a Meizu that still has residual warmth.

Just kidding, after laying so much groundwork, I think Meizu's current situation should be counted by everyone, living is alive but living very miserable.

Therefore, Meizu Technology, which was acquired by Geely, or more accurately, acquired by Geely's Star Era, may see a glimmer of hope for returning to the mainstream market and even returning to the peak.

But then more questions have emerged, why did Geely build mobile phones? And why did you choose the lonely Meizu?

On this issue, we were going to interview the Shimo-Asteris side. However, perhaps because the two sides are still going through the acquisition process and other reasons, we have not received much information, we can only try to guess the reasons.

In fact, we have seen too much news about car companies making mobile phones or mobile phone brands in the past two years, and Apple has come up with the idea of building cars as early as the Jobs period. Although the fate of this project is unknown at present, if Apple really becomes an automobile company one day, then the entire automobile industry will inevitably undergo a reshuffle.

In addition, Lei Jun's holding of 10 billion cars also shows Xiaomi's determination to become a car company, and the rest are Faraday FF91 to be delivered "immediately" and Skyworth EV6 that can really be delivered.

Of course, the highest degree of topic is still constantly reiterating that it does not build cars, but just wants to help car companies build good cars, and even Tesla and Weilai, two popular car companies, have frequently reported that they intend to build mobile phones.

These car companies and mobile phone brands in our cognition are actually technology companies in essence.

The future of the car and mobile phone will also become an indispensable mobile terminal device in each of our lives, so whether it is to build a car or a mobile phone, these companies are just improving their own ecological chain.

So if Geely wants to win the future, building mobile phones and even creating its own complete ecological chain like Huawei and Xiaomi must also be planned.

But since there is a star era, why did Jili buy Meizu?

I think it may be because Geely is used to buying and buying, and has also tasted the sweetness from buying and buying.

Geely's success in recent years has been inseparable from acquisitions, especially after the acquisition of Volvo. Today, the success of Geely's Lynk & Co, Extreme Kr brand, or the CMA series under the Geely brand is inseparable from Geely's acquisition of Volvo in 2010.

Therefore, before testing the water mobile phone industry, Geely still chose to buy and buy, and the lonely Meizu is the best choice.

Don't look at the current Meizu mix so miserable, but the excellent industrial design and the highly acclaimed Flyme system can still play, these two points are also the reasons why Meizu has survived to this day.

Geely may have chosen Meizu precisely because it saw meizu's still existing advantages in product strength.

Of course, the same as the acquisition of car brands, I predict that Geely will not only continue the Meizu brand's own product line, but even invest more financial support for it, so that Meizu can keep up with the pace of mainstream mobile phone brands.

And Geely's own mobile phone brand should also appear, forming a product array of Meizu going high-end and Geely going low-end. Even if Geely thinks more and wants to compete with Huawei and Apple, it is not surprising that it will go to the high end itself.

As for the aforementioned ecological chain, Geely should also be built through Meizu or further acquisition plans. Starting from the most basic smart wearable devices, to various electrical products such as TVs and computers, cars, mobile phones and smart homes can be interconnected.

In addition, whether the arrival of the Flyme system can enhance geely Group's experience in smart cars and machines is also worth looking forward to. Even exclusive mobile phone mapping methods such as CarPlay and HiCar should appear on models of Geely brands and even more brands.

In short, for Geely's acquisition of Meizu, I feel that this will definitely be a win-win choice.
