Baidu high-level adjustment: Shen Jian leads the intelligent cloud to create the second growth curve

Baidu founder, chairman and CEO Robin Li sent a full email today to announce the launch of a new round of cadre rotation: Shen Ji, executive vice president of Baidu Group, as the head of the Intelligent Cloud Business Group (ACG); He Junjie (Jackson) was promoted to senior vice president of the group and rotated as the head of Baidu's mobile ecological business group (MEG).

This is Baidu's largest internal business adjustment since 2019, which means that the heads of Baidu's most important core business segments and one of the most promising business sectors have been replaced.

Baidu also announced that Dr. Wang Haifeng will continue to serve as the group's executive vice president and CTO, and will no longer be the head of ACG. That is to say, since September 2019, Baidu Intelligent Cloud Business Group (ACG) has developed independently again.

With Shen Ji's leading intelligent cloud, Baidu's network disk business has also been classified into the Baidu Intelligent Cloud Business Group (ACG).

For Shen Jider, from controlling Baidu's most core revenue source sector to receiving Baidu's most potential business sector, it is a challenge and an opportunity.

Baidu said that Shen Jitter will be responsible for leading the ACG team to accelerate the implementation of the Cloud-Wisdom Integration strategy, realize the quantitative change of scale and health to qualitative change, and establish a new merit for the development of Baidu's second curve.

The last major adjustment was 3 years ago

Baidu's last large-scale high-level team adjustment occurred in 2019. At that time, in March 2019, Baidu announced the retirement of President Zhang Yaqin; in May, Liu Hui, senior vice president of Baidu Human Resources, retired, and Cui Shanshan, one of the "Seven Musketeers" of Baidu Entrepreneurship, was fully responsible for Baidu's human resources work.

In May of the same year, Xiang Hailong, president of Baidu Search, resigned, and Shen Ji took the helm of Baidu's Mobile Ecology Business Group (MEG).

During the same period, Baidu promoted Senior Vice President Wang Haifeng to CTO and continued to serve as the general manager of AI Technology Platform System (AIG) and Basic Technology System (TG).

Wang Haifeng joined Baidu in January 2010 and has served as Senior Scientist, Chief Scientist, Vice President and Senior Vice President of Basic Technology. Former Baidu chief scientist Wu Enda left Baidu in early 2017, which is an important opportunity for Wang Haifeng to emerge within Baidu.

At that time, Baidu announced the in-depth integration of Baidu's core technologies including NLP, KG, IDL, Speech, BigData and other core technologies to form an AI technology platform system (AIG). Baidu appointed Wang Haifeng, then vice president, as the general head of the AI technology platform system, and was promoted to Baidu's highest decision-making level (Estaff) member. In 2018, Wang Haifeng was further reused and became the general head of Baidu TG and AIG, responsible for the research and development of artificial intelligence technology and basic technologies such as algorithms, computing power, data, and security.

As the head of Baidu Technology, Wang Haifeng's step-by-step promotion paved the way for him to become Baidu's CTO in May 2019.

In April 2020, Baidu quickly promoted a number of middle-level departments, covering multiple departments, including Zhou Huan of the Mobile Ecology Strategic Planning Department, Cao Xiaodong of the Mobile Ecological User Growth Department, and Ping Xiaoli of the Baidu APP Business Department. All three work in Baidu's Mobile Ecosystem Business Group (MEG), which is headed by Shen Ji, executive vice president of Baidu Group.

Change 2022 Multiple high-level has been adjusted

Before the adjustment of Shen Shu's position, Baidu has made a series of adjustments internally.

In March 2021, Baidu CEO Robin Li released an email announcing that Li Zhenyu had been promoted to Senior Vice President (M5A) of the Group, and would continue to take full responsibility for IDG's business and management, and report to Robin Li.

Li Zhenyu joined Baidu in 2007 and has served as the head of the quality department, project management department, process information management department, basic technology operation department, AI platform department, and autonomous driving business unit (L4), and has been the head of the intelligent driving business group (IDG) since August 2017.

In September 2021, Baidu disclosed that CFO Yu Zhengjun (Herman) was rotated to a CSO position and was responsible for the company's strategic planning and management.

In November 2021, Baidu appointed Luo Rong as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Group Company, leading the overall management of Baidu's financial system.

Luo Rong has served as the Chief Financial Officer of Good Future since 2014. Luo Rong itself has experience in trading a market value of $50 billion, which is also a good choice for Baidu. Baidu CEO Robin Li said at the time that Luo Rong had extensive experience in financial management and capital markets. Look forward to his skills and leadership to help us achieve the next phase of growth in the era of artificial intelligence."

In November 2021, Baidu announced that He Mingke was appointed as the senior vice president of the group, responsible for smart medical and health related businesses, reporting to CEO Robin Li. He Mingke worked at 58 Group from 2015 to 2021 and served as Co-President of 58 Group.

The adjustment of the head of Baidu's mobile ecological business group is also the first time that the business line has changed coaches in 3 years.

Create a second growth curve

Since taking the helm in May 2019, Shen Ji has continued to transform and "make up lessons" for Baidu's mobile ecological business group.

Shen Ji aside suggested that behind every search by users on Baidu, there are clear service needs. For example, when users search for popular tourist destinations on National Day, there are various service needs such as purchasing tickets and booking hotels. Therefore, servitization is a core strategy of Baidu's mobile ecosystem.

In April 2021, during the "Vientiane Conference", Baidu released the mobile ecosystem X+Y strategy, using "horizontal development of user scale, vertical deep ploughing of the industry vertical way" to promote the entire ecology to service, personal upgrading. "Deep ploughing industry" has become the "keyword" of Baidu's mobile ecology.

In March 2022, Baidu's mobile ecological business group adjusted its sales system. Before the adjustment, Baidu's mobile ecological sales system was divided into four parts: KA (large customer), direct sales, channel distribution, and travel agency, and the adjusted sales system was divided into nine parts, including four industry departments (mass consumption, big health, content consumption, business services), channel ecological cooperation department, channel sales development department, marketing service contact center, sales management department, and sales service department.

In other words, after the upgrade, the mobile ecosystem sales system will be more customer-centric, providing customized services according to the customer's industry and its own attributes. As a technicalist, Shen Ji has made many contributions to the strengthening of Baidu's mobile ecosystem.

The intelligent cloud business led by Shen Ji this time was not under the jurisdiction of Wang Haifeng at the earliest. At the end of 2018, Baidu announced the upgrade of the Intelligent Cloud Division (ACU) to the Intelligent Cloud Business Group (ACG), which carries the development of AI to B and cloud services. The ACG was led by Yin Shiming, vice president of Baidu and general manager of Baidu Intelligent Cloud Business Group, and reported to Zhang Yaqin.

In September 2019, Baidu announced the integration of the intelligent cloud business group and the CTO system, and Yin Shiming's team turned to the group's CTO Wang Haifeng to report. This happened when Zhang Yaqin retired in September 2019. Six months later, Yin Shiming left Baidu, after which Yin Shiming joined Weimob Group as chief operating officer.

This time, Shen Ji led the intelligent cloud, Li Yanhong said, expecting him to lead the ACG team to accelerate the implementation of the cloud-intelligence integration strategy, achieve quantitative change to qualitative change in scale and health, and establish a new merit for the development of Baidu's second curve.

He Junjie, who succeeded Shen Ji as the head of Baidu's mobile ecological business group, joined Baidu in 2019, not a technical school, but an investment bank. He Junjie graduated from The Guanghua School of Management of Peking University in 2007 with rich experience in investment and M&A management, and has served as the manager of the investment banking department of China International Capital Corporation Limited, the investment director of Warburg Pincus Investment Group, and the managing partner of Langrun Investment.

Robin Li said that in the past three years, in addition to being responsible for a number of important investment and merger projects, Jackson has been responsible for MEG-related positions such as budgeting, sales management, live broadcasting, etc., and has made important contributions to MEG's lean operations.
