Blizzard's first native mobile game, The Legion of Warcraft, is public: control mini-chess to rule Azeroth

Blizzard Entertainment unveiled its new mobile game "Warcraft Corps" today (4) - this mobile action strategy game of the Warcraft series is expected to land on Android and iOS platforms in designated areas in the second half of this year.

In Legion of Warcraft, players will have the opportunity to collect more than 60 characters from the Warcraft series, who will appear in the form of board game-style mini-chess. Players will be able to deploy these characters and try to break through 70 single-player campaign levels, or they can go to co-op mode to join their friends on missions, or test their team strength and compete against other players in PvP mode.

In Legion of Warcraft, players build their own mini-chess army, starting with the leader of the team, who includes well-known characters in the Warcraft series such as Warsong Chief Garrush Hell Roar and Grand Mage Gianna Prodmore, and the player will control the leaders from five factions, including: Alliance, Tribe, Beast, Undead, and Blackstone. Pair it with a miniature chess soldier in charge of combat and powerful spells.

Players can also join guilds, interact with other players, plan next challenges, and collect rewards together. Players will be able to accumulate in-game currency to expand and upgrade their collection lineup, and players can earn in-game currency by simply playing the game, or have the option to purchase it through the in-game store. More information about the in-game store, including pricing and item fields, will be announced at a later date.

Officials say it won't be long before some players in the designated area will be able to participate in the Warcraft Corps beta test.

Some media also interviewed Jeremy Collins, art director of "Warcraft Corps", and Andy Lim, senior software design engineer, before the trial, and the following is the Q&A of this time.

Q: How long has the Warcraft Corps been developed? Can you tell how many people are on the team?

A: Compared to other teams, it is relatively small, about less than 100 people, which is a lot different from the more than 300 people in World of Warcraft, but we will also seconde personnel from other teams, and the development time is not convenient for us to explain in detail.

Q: Is the game free to play? Are units earned by drawing cards or playing games?

A: This is a problem that we attach great importance to, we want to design a charging model that puts players first, at present the store will be a matrix of 3 X 3, the currency of the store is the general reward currency in the game, this currency can also be purchased with cash, we do not have a card design, it is directly using currency to exchange for characters.

Q: There are many types of mobile games on the market at present, how did Warcraft Corps determine to do the kind of game we see now?

A: To make a long story short, no matter which game Blizzard opens, it wants to put the game experience first, each unit is deployed and moving forward, this basic way we decided very early, we have always paid attention to how to cooperate with the mobile platform. The screen will be smaller on mobile platforms, so we'll make sure that each character looks very clear, so if it's an orc model that can be recognized at a glance, these designs can stimulate our creativity.

Q: Promotional videos continue to emphasize the meaning of Chaos? Is it that the player will be busy playing, and what commands can the player actually make on the mini-chess unit?

A: It's actually a happy chaotic situation, because sometimes there are multiple points happening, there will be a lot of favorable locations on the map, and overall, the player needs to send the right soldiers at the right time and in the right place. Since it is a multi-line combat mode, it is not possible to operate for each unit.

However, each character has a talent system that can be used to change their mode, such as the Angry Chicken, which initially summons 9 chicks, but one talent is "One Big Chicken", which will be a tank chicken with 8 chicks.

Q: How many units are there in each of the five different legions? Do units have any mutual restraint properties? Will you buy more units in the store as the level progresses?

A: There are currently a total of 60 units, which can be divided into three types of "Leader", "Soldier", "Spell", the leader is the core, the six spaces can be freely matched with soldiers or spells, and soldiers and spells can choose different factions.

The game does not allow players to directly use cash to buy the game's units, each faction has more than one leader, a bit like a deck genre, each leader has a special effect on the battlefield, for example, when using Hogg, it will be more suitable for using a large number of low-cost soldiers, and the in-game classes will have the concept of mutual restraint, which is also the core of the design.

Classes are mainly melee, ranged and flying, basically long-range flight, flying gram melee, melee gram range, but can make the whole battle unique and unexpected through talent, and the unit also has a suffix of attributes such as "siege".

Q: Judging from the promotional video just now, is "Warcraft Corps" more focused on PvE mode?

A: We've built 70 maps, which will take months to complete, and we want to give players the feeling of being able to tour a full circle of Azeroth, as well as in mission mode, dungeons, large dungeons, and PVP parts on one-on-one.

Q: Will the emulator or PC version be supported?

A: No comment at the moment, the game is based on the iOS and Android platforms.

Q: Can I reveal events with special maps?

A: At present, most of the game has been completed, the game will not have the design of the season at the beginning, but the dungeon is not the same as the campaign mode, after entering the dungeon, there will be 3 maps, the player will have two challenge opportunities, the player must find a way to use the same team to open the 3 maps, and each dungeon has three unique creatures, the player can choose one of them to bring to use.

Q: Will there be a story in PvE mode? Is it related to World of Warcraft?

A: It may be a little early to talk about this, but the pink-haired driver will take the player through the entire novice experience, and in the game demo clip, you can actually guess who the tail king of the 70 maps is, so the game does have some of its own plot.
