These are two sentences from a letter written by the writer Mo Yan to a young friend before May Fourth Youth Day.

Mo Yan gave two examples, one of which was that he dropped out of school in his own childhood and learned words through the Xinhua Dictionary, laying the foundation for writing novels in the future.
The other is that his grandfather relied on the strength of a person to protect the car and prevent the wind from blowing away when the wind came.
Mo Yan used these two stories as an example to summarize his point of view: "A person can be defeated by life, but he cannot be defeated by it. ”
The writer Hemingway wrote another similar passage in The Old Man and the Sea: "A man can be destroyed, but he cannot be defeated." ”
