On the evening of April 10, Guo Suping, a researcher at the College of Forestry of Hebei Agricultural University and the wife of Li Baoguo, told her thoughts about her husband in the WeChat circle of friends.

Six years ago, in the early morning of April 10, Li Baoguo, the "new yugong on the Taihang Mountains", died of illness. Before his death, he was committed to the ecological governance of the Taihang Mountains and the masses to get rid of poverty and become well-off, and for 35 years he took root in the Taihang Mountains, using the hand of science and technology to turn stones into gold, making 1.4 million mu of barren mountains green, and leading more than 100,000 farmers to get rid of poverty and become rich.

After Li Baoguo's death, the Li Baoguo Mountain Development and Forest Fruit Industry Innovation Team of Hebei Agricultural University, with Guo Suping as the leader, inherited the "Li Baoguo Spirit" and continuously innovated and developed on the basis of the "Li Baoguo Taihang Mountain Precision Poverty Alleviation Model" to inject scientific and technological impetus into rural revitalization. Since 2016, it has trained more than 50,000 farmers in more than 370 cities and counties in 14 provinces and autonomous regions such as Hebei, Xinjiang and Hubei, and built 10 new bases, benefiting more than 2.6 million mu and a cumulative new output value of 1.2 billion yuan. This year, the Li Baoguo Mountain Development and Forest Fruit Industry Innovation Team of Hebei Agricultural University was awarded the title of National Worker Pioneer.

On April 22, in the newly transformed 100-acre walnut orchard in Donggou Village, Zhaozhuang Township, Lincheng County, small walnuts were hung on the branches. The fruit growers who are fertilizing under the trees have a smile on their faces, and in two years, the walnut trees will be productive and the family will add another income.

It used to be a low-yielding and inferior walnut garden, with a mixture of varieties, and most of them were solid walnut trees, which were planted for many years without fruit. Last spring, Li Baoguo Mountain Development and Forest Fruit Industry Innovation Team transformed these walnut trees into new varieties of "Green Ridge" walnuts with early results, good yield, good quality and high price through high-quality and excellent technology, helping fruit farmers achieve a bumper harvest.

Qi Guohui, a member of the Li Baoguo Mountain Development and Forest Fruit Industry Innovation Team and a professor at Hebei Agricultural University, is the main person in charge of this project. From last spring to now, she has repeatedly visited the scene to teach fruit growers various management knowledge such as pre-graft preparation, grafting technology, post-grafting removal, pruning, fertilizer management, pest control and wintering prevention.

Qi Guohui introduced that in the past, due to the poor understanding of walnut varieties by fruit farmers, the uneven quality of planting varieties, and the situation of many years of fruitlessness after becoming a forest, even if the fruit is also of different sizes and the thickness of the shell is uneven, which has become the main bottleneck that plagues the efficient cultivation of walnuts. Their scientific research team realizes the good breeding of low-yield and inferior walnut orchards by changing inferior and inferior quality, improves fruit neatness with scientific management, improves the unit yield of walnut orchards, and increases economic benefits. "It is estimated that the yield of walnut forests after the transformation will be increased by 110 kilograms, and the output value of each mu will be increased by 2200 yuan." Qi Guohui said.

Taking advantage of the team members' complete disciplines, rich experience and strong innovation ability, Li Baoguo's mountain development and forest fruit industry innovation team has solved one key bottleneck problem after another that restricts the development of the industry, and provided reliable technical support for poverty alleviation in the mainland's characteristic economic forest industry.

The old apple orchard seedlings were reconstructed in situ to restore the early harvest technology, which was Li Baoguo's unfulfilled wish before his death. Red raspberry is a kind of third-generation "golden fruit" suitable for cultivation in the hilly areas and plains of Taihang. In 2014, Li Baoguo took graduate students to study related technologies from scratch. Nowadays, the efficient supporting cultivation technology of red raspberries developed by Li Baoguo Mountain Development and Forest Fruit Industry Innovation Team has enabled red raspberries to achieve fruitful results in that year, with a yield of 750 kilograms per mu and an output value of more than 10,000 yuan per mu. The red raspberry tissue culture center has realized factory seedlings, with an annual output capacity of more than 4 million seedlings, and has developed a series of products such as red raspberry oral liquid, raspberry dried red, raspberry "mosquito not itch", etc., of which the processing technology of red raspberry oral liquid deep product has increased the added value of the product by 15.7 times.

Nowadays, green has become a new fashion on people's tables. The comprehensive application of new fruit bag technology, broad-spectrum attractant technology, and intelligent monitoring of pests by Li Baoguo Mountain Development and Forest Fruit Industry Innovation Team with peach green production as the core can reduce the fruit decay rate from more than 30% to less than 1% on the basis of no spraying pesticides before picking, and increase the mu income by 3920 yuan.

Since the start of development in 2016, through the planning of industrial projects and the improvement of infrastructure, in only 3 years, it has been built into a mountainous comprehensive development zone integrating organic planting, characteristic breeding, ecological restoration, sightseeing tourism and agricultural product processing, and integrating the development of one, two and three industries.

"After the death of teacher Li Baoguo, agricultural experts such as Guo Suping continued to spread new ideas and new technologies, so that the park embarked on a new modern agricultural road of efficient ecological sustainable development." Wu Tieyou, chairman of the Jiguanshan Ecological Agriculture Industrial Park, said that the light and warm water in the solar greenhouse have achieved intelligent management, and all aspects of planting management have been injected with scientific and technological elements. Today, strawberries, figs and dragon fruit can be picked all year round.

Since March 13, Guo Suping has been conducting technical training for fruit farmers in Xingtai Lincheng, Gangdi and other places, and teaching farmers spring fruit tree management knowledge in the field. "From the current point of view, Xingtai walnuts, apples and almond trees are growing well, and the fruit set rate is very good. In the next step, we must do a good job in technical guidance, grasp the quality of fruits from all aspects, let the fruit trees bear good fruit, and let the farmers have a good harvest. Guo Suping said.

"Turn me into a peasant, turn a peasant into me" was Li Baoguo's wish before his death. For more than 30 years, he has built classrooms in rural bases, brought students into the mountains of Taihang, and let students integrate with the peasant masses in the front line of production practice. After Li Baoguo left, li Baoguo's mountain development and forest fruit industry innovation team members spend more than two-thirds of their time serving at the grassroots level every year. In recent years, due to the low and hard returns of agricultural production in some localities, young and middle-aged laborers are reluctant to work in agriculture, and "who will plant the land" and "how to plant the land" have become practical problems.

To solve this problem, Guo Suping believes that on the one hand, it is necessary to improve the technical level and comprehensive quality of farmers, on the other hand, it is necessary to improve the level of agricultural modernization and make farming intelligent and efficient.

In recent years, in order to better serve modern agriculture, Hebei Agricultural University, together with Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Chinese Academy of Forestry, Hebei Academy of Agricultural Sciences and other units to tackle technical bottlenecks, has successively introduced 4 Taihang scholars and young talents from Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Northwest A&F University, etc., effectively enriching the team talent force and forming an effective integration of characteristic industries and professional talents. This scientific and technological innovation team, which has injected fresh blood, has been working in the front line of scientific research and production for many years as always, and has fully served the rural revitalization strategy.

During this year's "Cloud Sacrifice" Li Baoguo activity during the Qingming Festival, Guo Suping left a message through the "Cloud Sacrifice": "I am still at the grassroots level for more than 300 days a year as before.
