On April 29th, the "Adventure of Gaze" art group exhibition opened at Chengdu Jiuyi Life Museum, exhibiting many paintings by three young artists, Li Jiliang, Zhang Jiaying and Zhang Zhaoying. Although the themes and styles of their creations are different, the biggest similarity is that the colors used are very strong and bold, and the May Fourth Youth Day is coming, and this exhibition also truly presents the vitality and vitality of local young artists.
Chengdu is a well-known art city in the country, and since the 1980s, Chengdu artists such as He Duoling and Zhou Chunya have entered the public eye. In the new millennium, a large number of outstanding young artists have emerged. Li Jiliang and Zhang Jiaying are both post-90s artists, Li Jiliang graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, his works are color jumping, the picture is simple, and the artist continues to enrich the story behind the picture in the limited visual elements, and build spatial tension under the two-dimensional plane.
Zhang Jiaying's works are more like the embodiment of abstract time, and it is not difficult to imagine the slow process of blank canvas being filled with countless repetitive, overlapping, and entangled lines and geometric color blocks by Zhang Jiaying with the passage of time. In the face of her work, it is difficult for the audience's vision not to fall into the visual labyrinth of her carefully designed and layered layers.
As the only participating artist with overseas study experience, Zhang Zhaoying, who received a master's degree in visual arts from the Academy of Arts in Brussels, shows a completely different temperament from the previous two artists. In his works, the sense of interlacing of time and space is particularly strong, rich picture elements, like a film interspersed with a combination of montage scenes, objects and scenes in different time and space are intertwined, and the artist uses a brush to freeze a moment on the canvas, like an unfinished drama.
"Jokes" are the breath that pervades Zhang Zhaoying's works, and in his own words, the world he is facing now is different from the past, and all cultures (thoughts, art, philosophies) go to regions and boundaries. He playfully arranges the relationship of the images, virtually creating unrealistic scenes, presenting an inexplicable sense of absurdity.
Yang Kai, curator of this exhibition, said that "The Adventure of Gaze" gives the audience the opportunity to see the process of three young artists exploring the way forward on their respective creative paths in a rich and noisy contemporary art environment, and their unique artistic language and temperament provide the audience with different paths to understand and enter contemporary art, which is a process of dialogue with the artist for every viewer, and also a journey of exploration from vision to thinking.
