In the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, Real Madrid played Manchester City away, and with the team trailing by two goals in the opening two, Benzema scored a goal to win back a city, which was also Benzema's 40th goal in all competitions this season.
Benzema became the second French player to score 40+ goals in a single season in the five major leagues after Givaš in 1996-97 and Mbappe in 2020-21.
