Not afraid of the "red code", they are the people who "chase the light" in the epidemic

Xinhua News Agency, Shanghai, April 25 (Reporter Gong Wen) During the new crown epidemic, in addition to the "great white" racing against the virus, a group of medical staff are also racing against the clock to protect the light for more people. Recently, under the condition that the health code is red code, a vegetable supply worker in Shanghai underwent a difficult corneal transplant. After the operation, the patient not only saved his eyes, but his vision was gradually restored.

The patient told reporters that at first he felt discomfort in his right eye, gradually felt pain, and even could not see foreign objects. Later, due to the prevention and control of the epidemic, he was transferred to the isolation hotel, and due to the complicated condition, after the coordination and help of all parties, he was transferred to the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University.

Gong Lan, director of the Department of Ophthalmology and Surface Diseases at the Affiliated Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University, was the attending physician of the patient. She said the patient suffered from a fungal corneal ulcer, a disease that was very difficult to treat, and when he was sent by 120 ambulance, the patient's cornea was almost completely necrotic, and his vision was only faintly light.

It is reported that fungal keratitis is a corneal disease with a high blinding rate caused by fungal infections. The patient's occupation is vegetable supply, and once corneal trauma occurs in the workplace, there is a greater risk of fungal infection.

"If the cornea is gone, the contents of the eye inside will gush out, and the eye will not be able to keep it at all." Gong Lan said that although the "red code" patients will bring risks to the hospital's epidemic prevention and control, under the premise of doing a good job in pre-protection and post-sanitize, it is still necessary to strive for a glimmer of light for patients, "If patients miss treatment, they will leave a lifetime of regrets."

How to develop a suitable treatment plan? At that time, Gong Lan and the team had three choices: one was to do eye content removal, but it would make the patient lose hope of regaining sight; second, to do conjunctival valve masking, but it may be difficult to control in time for the fierce condition; third, to do emergency corneal transplant surgery, but the difficulty is high risk, and may face a series of postoperative problems such as large rejection and secondary glaucoma.

After full communication between the medical team and the patient, both sides decided to "give it a go" and perform corneal transplantation. The hospital medical department, outpatient emergency department, hospital infection department, operating room, anesthesia department, laboratory department and other departments worked closely together to open a green channel for the diagnosis and treatment of this "red code" patient.

Gong Lan in the negative pressure operating room, first carefully cleaned the pus for the patient, after removing the ulcerated tissue, found a suitable corneal tablet from the hospital Red Cross eye bank, and properly sutured one needle at a time. On the first day after surgery, although there was still obvious edema in the corneal implant, the inflammation was controlled in time and the eye protection was initially successful.

Zhou Xingtao, president of the Affiliated Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital of Fudan University, said that the eyes are life, and for ophthalmologists, they will do everything possible to save their eyes for patients unless they have to.

At 3:00 a.m. a few days ago, a 68-year-old patient with abnormal nucleic acid testing was delivered to the hospital by 120 due to severe eye pain, and was examined as acute angle-closure glaucoma, which, if not treated in time, may lead to irreparable damage to the optic nerve and vision. After the doctor's puncture treatment, the patient's eye pain symptoms continue to ease, and the vision has been restored to a certain extent.

It is necessary to do a good job in epidemic prevention and control, but also to ensure the needs of patients for medical treatment. Since the implementation of sealing and large-scale nucleic acid screening in Batches in Shanghai on March 28, more than 5,000 patients have been treated in the outpatient emergency department of the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, and more than 60 cases of retinal detachment surgery have been completed, saving the patients' vision in time. At the same time, its Internet hospital has received more than 18,000 visits, and through measures such as "taking the drug code" to take medicines, it can meet the needs of patients seeking medical treatment under the epidemic as much as possible.
